Glider Ride Oahu

Has anyone out there done any glider rides on Oahu? Those are the planes with out motors that you glide around the island. What is the cost, can you do it once with a trained pilot. Not looking to learn about flying just would like to view Hawaii coastline via glider.

yes..you fly out of Dillingham field, its great. Cost was $45.00 for 30 mins but this was about 4 years ago..Also was able to dicker with two differant operaters at the airport to get best deal. If its slow you might be able to also. It will cost you a little more if you want to sit in the front seat and try handling the stick on your own..but its worth it,,great views of the north shore.

I've done it....twice! Paul's estimate is about the going price. I think you can pay extra to have yourself videotaped, as well.

Friend on the North Shore just told me there are a number of accidents on these planes that come up on the local news periodically. Did you find out about your plane's accident history? Please let me know if you know a company with a safe history.

Ahhh, I wouldn't worry too much about crashing,,hell, the fall will kill ya..LOL..but really, your chances of getting hurt are 1000 times greater just driving to the field. The pilots know what their doing, its their butt also. Live a little... GO FOR IT!!

Thanks Paul you really have encouraged me to take the risk. My friend seems to be quite the kill joy on any airborn activity I want to pursue in Hawaii. Odd, I actually was living on Oahu and beginning to volunteer at Dillingham. If you do that at some of these places they give you free flying lessons. You do have to register with the FAA. And in time of War be willing here on the mainland to fly supplies domestically. But there are no other time restrictions that you would expect like weekend training with military. To make a long story short those planes use to scare the bejesus out of me. I was there to learn about the planes with motors. Now for some reason I have no fear, just left me completely. Anyone else out there with experience on these planes? And thanks again Paul!!!
