Girls trip to NYC

Looking for some tips on NYC. Four ladies in our late 20's looking for some dim sum in China Town, a bar or club where we can possibly sight celebrities but not a must somewhere fun and trendy, a bar to catch the Super Bowl on Sunday (we are from North Carolina)and any other ideas you can give. We do have tickets to see Hairspary on Sunday. We arrive Friday the 30th. Not going to do too many site seeing activities other than the Met and the MOMA. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Audrey
P.S. Is Tavern on the Green and the Russian Tea Room a recommended visit?

If you do a search on NYC or any of the topics/places you mention, you'll get tons of posts.

As for MOMA, many people ask about this and apparently it is closed and temporarily moved to Queens.

Also, from all the recent posts, the majority seem to think the Tavern on the Green is highly overrated.

Russian tea room is also closed. Bring boots. We got 10 inches of snow yesterday - the slush will probably last thru saturday . . .

In terms of watching the game, if you want to hang with people that have your accent, you might want to go to Brother Jimmy's on the Upper East Side. It is a big hangout for ACC fans and those from NC, in particular. I should caution, I haven't been there in 7 years so I'm not even sure if it is still around.

In terms of celebrities, unless you are willing to go to the newest and trendiest nightclub, stand outside and freeze, and then not get in, hard to say any one spot will be a celebrity haunt.

In terms of bars, plenty of options. Suggestions really depend whether you'd tather go to a martini type lounge or a good Irish bar. In terms of the former, the bar at the W Hotel in Times Square might be a good option. For the latter, take your pick.

BTW, unless you are looking for mediocre, overpriced food in a tourist trap, avoid Tavern on the Green. If you are looking for something on the Upper West, try Calle Ocho on Columbus Ave. and the low West 80's. (Can't remember the exact address.)

I'd avoid Tavern--you can do much better. If you want to check it out, you can go in and use the bathroom during the day (since it's in a public park, the bathrooms are public).
As for the game, Brother Jimmy's is great--multiple locations (upper east side, upper west side)--multiple TV's and great NC BBQ.
For dim sum, I highly recommend HSF in Chinatown on Bowery--excellent food, very fresh. Stay away from Golden Unicorn, one of the "popular" dim sum palaces==it's much too big, food is just ok, poor service, and most of the time it's cold by the time the carts get around to you.

How fun! NYC with my girlfriends is a favorite vacation!

I highly suggest you go to the Rainbow Room bar for champagne! No jeans allowed. Splurge, have bellinis (what the Ciprianis are famous for) and tell each other what great friends you are!

Bloomies and Century 21 are a must. Unless you have a couple of thousand dollars to blow shopping, skip places like Saks and the SoHo Prada store.

Kiehls in the East Village is an institution and has great health and beauty aids.

The Sephora in Times Square is the largest one I've been in.

Celeb sightings. That is a toughie. Unless they are working in town, I'd think they would be in a warmer location. If it is nice, Sunday afternoon on the Upper East Side is a great place to catch the famous. You could also try Chris Noth (aka Mr. Big) music venue in Chelsea.

Unfortunately, the Russian Tea Room is now the NYC home of the PGA. Tavern is a waste for food.

I just dont get it folks. I live nearby, have been to the Tavern on the Green for 4 or 5 various special occasions, and continue to be happily amazed with the experience AND the food! I see many posts about it not being good food. Let me cast my vote for TOG, we always get the prix fixe or holiday special prix fixe. Very happy with it. Most recent visit was Fall of 2003. I think people in their late 20s would enjoy it, and try to get the room with the glass windows and fancy chandeliers (sorry, the name escapes at the moment). Never had a bad time or meal there! And follow it with a carriage ride!

Sorry - I agree to avoid TOG. I frequently have to entertain out of town clients and they all want to go there. Although the venue is very pretty the food is mediocre at best - you can do much better for the money.

As an alternative to Tavern on the Green, I suggest the Sea Grill at Rockefeller Center. Great seafood & a view of the ice skating rink. Go to restaurantassociates.com & have a look at the menu. They may have some discounts or specials there.

I'm not up on trendy clubs but Marquee in Chelsea at 289 10th ave was featured in the style section of last Sunday's NYTimes. The article said Uma Thurman was there & there were sightings of P Diddy & Benecio del Toro. But there's a $20 cover unless you're on a guest list & I imagine they'll be mobbed after being written up. Dress code for women was low cut shirts & low rider jeans. Have a blast
