Gift suggestions for folks who travel?

As the holiday season is upon us, I am once again searching for the perfect gift for my dad. My mom (who likes clothes & jewelery and is much easier to buy for) and dad are retired and love to travel. My brother and I got them a gift certificate to a B&B for their anniversary and I'm scared to buy dad any travel books for fear he already has them. So I ask you, my fellow travelers, for gift suggestions for my traveling dad. Help?

What about some travel vouchers or gift certificates on airlines they tend to use frequently?

Now, seriously: check Baggallini website. Lots of travel gift ideas. I love their zip-out things, but it may be more for women.

I have asked for (and given) lots of travel-related gifts. Here are some suggestions:

- TSA-approved locks for luggage
- Travel document case (LL Bean has a nice one)
- Adapters and converters for electrical appliances
- Personalized luggage tags (brass ones are especially nice)
- Travel alarm
- Leatherman Wave multi-tool

For my sister's island honeymoon, I made up a survival kit: large canvas boat tote, a pair of beach towels, sunscreens (including scalp and lips), insect repellent, a waterproof case for license, keys and cash, and a framed and matted photo of her destination.

Does your father enjoy cooking? If he does and is also found of Impressionist paintings, a book called Monet's Table might be a really nice gift. It features recipies from Claude Monet's journals and some really beautiful pictures of his home in Giverney.

If you were looking to spend as much as $100, I'm not sure I'd travel again without a portable DVD player. The prices on them have really come down. Of course, when I travel my 3 year old uses it (but that's a different story.)

I like the idea of a portable DVD player. Can these be hooked up to a regular tv or do you have to use the tiny screen they come with?

As they travel often, they pretty much have the basics (travel kit, luggage tags, lots of frequent flyer miles). I got dh the llbean travel caddy last year and he loves it!

A really nice travel alarm clock is on my wish list this Christmas. Hate having to rely on my ability to set the hotel's alarm clock. I get it wrong at least 50% of the time and either wake up at 4am or don't wake up on time.

What about a nice travel journal. I recently saw some nice leather ones that have pockets to keep maps, ticket stubs etc as mementos of your travels.

With the right accessories, I believe many models can be plugged into a tv. I think if you check with any of the major electronics retailers, they can fill you in on the relative merits of one brand versus others.

The real issue to think about is battery capacity. Most come with a 3 hour, rechargeable battery although I believe some models have more capacity. Certainly enough time to avoid watching "Police Academy 9" with the rest of the coach passengers!

My wife noticed one advertised for something like $89 the other day. Believe it was in a Wal-Mart ad, but not certain.
