Well, it's an art museum, how much do you like art? Mostly pre-20th century European art, spread out through maybe 5 or 6 medium to small buildings around a central courtyard. There are other buildings that are not normally open to the public.
Most people are much more impressed with the stunning architecture of the Getty Center than with the actual collections, which can be a little stuffy, IMHO. I've never spent more than a couple of hours there.

It depends on what you want to do. We were on a 3 hour tour that was too short. I enjoyed the gardens the views, and the giftshop. I actually found a print in the giftshop and ran around to see where it was at the last minute. We had missed it due to it being pulled for a special show. There are also places to eat there. If you add that in the need for time grows.

My husband and I visited the center last year and paid the reserved $5.00 parking fee. It's an awesome facility (we love the modern architecture and gardens), and of course enjoyed the art exhibits.
There are 2 restaurants. An excellent cafeteria style (every type of food imaginable), and a restaurant (reservations recommended). We were pleasantly surprised with both.
One day was not enough. Can't wait to return! Best of all IT's FREE.....

Depends on what else you have planned in the LA area. I would give it several hours. Go in the am and stay for lunch. The collections are ho-hum unless you are in to their collections. But the view is great and there is a nice cafe. Beautiful gardens.

Hi,
I live in LA and have been several times. It's a nice place, but more for the atmosphere, view etc than the collection. LA doesn't have the best art museums, and this will seem mediocre to you if you have been to the Met in NY or practically anything in Europe. It will take a few hours to visit.
