You really only have a few routes,
1. The most direct route is I95 straight from Weston, across the GWB, to NJ Turnpike (still I95) to Newark / Exit 14A, then I78 a few miles to Jersey City. I'd time it to hit the GWB no earlier than 9am - getting through the Bronx and across the GWB could be a mess.
2. Use Tappan Zee Bridge to avoid the GWB, then you have a choice of several routes through NJ. Garden St. Pkway to Rt 80 to 95S to I78, or GSP all the way to I78, or some combination. Those routes are 10-20miles longer drive than going across the GWB.
What time Fri am? If you're hitting rush hour anywhere along the route you would have trouble going through NYC.

If you don't want i 95 all the way, from CT without trucks, we have taken the Merit Pky (rt 15) to the Hutchinson River pky, to the Cross County then follow signs to the George Washington I think it sends you to the Henry Hudson or Deegan not sure but the signs are quite clear.
Tune to one of the news stations that gives traffic reports every 10 minutes and listen for possible problems.

Either way will mean a lot of traffic. Listen to 1010 WINS before you leave to see what the traffic reports are. If given the choice I avoid the the Cross Bronx at any cost - and would take the Parkway system (Hutch to Cross County to Saw Mill to Henry Hudson) to the GWB rather than I-95. Just avoiding all those monster trucks and CB is worthwhile IMHO.
