Oh come on Faina-we know you have your little flask right there on your desk!!
Well I am putting it on my calendar I plan to be there unless there is major change in plans. After all we need to celebrate our birthdays together.

trippinkpj-You live south of San Franciso, right. I will be in the area for work a couple of days before the GTG and go just about anywhere because I have clients all over the place. I would be happy to give you a ride to the GTG. I have to fly home (San Diego) that evening and would prefer to fly from OAK but since we are doing brunch, I would probably have plenty of time to take you home. If not, I am sure someone else could give you a ride. My e-mail is [email protected].

Poor meek me ... Faina's boss?! I thought I'm your social secretary keeping your calendar and carrying your purse with the flask, I knew which weekends you were not available for this GTG. And you must be chugging something from the flask, what time does the GTG start, please? Or is it all day eating?
To keep costs down, we can go back to Shanghai House if everyone agrees.

Zee Fwhench Food zounds quite bon to moi.
(disclaimer: no Frenchman/woman was hurt during this statement. I took Fwench when I was in middle school because I thought it was so romantic, so these accents are with love, not making fun)

Hmm. No biscuits & gravy on the menu. What kinda fancy place is this? Bet they have cloth napkins. Oh, I see Mimosas are available. Very well, count me in. If anyone needs a ride from the South Bay let me know.

Big oops.
I was in the lounge....there was a poster complaining about those that blow sunshine up skirts b/c of past posts.
I responded by directing readers to those posts, that were mine (as vg) and several people started posting how confused they were about vg vs roslaire. I explained. Terribley (virtually) embarrassing. Hopefully, they won't chew me up and spit me out for dinner and dessert.
You can see my pitiful exposure at "What do you do that is nice for people" In case you'd like to pitch in some support for an 'exposed' fodorite. (strangely, in the post re: the d.d. I got messages from people that normally don't show up....people whose names I'd never seen before. BUT thankfully, Katie removed the dd post)

I was sitting here in Amsterdam thnking how the end of our European trip is coming to an end, and we must return to hot and humid Florida for the duration of the summer. Then I saw some amazing prices on AA.com to California. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Tripping and Neo- do try to come! so looking forward to meeting you both!
I'm providing the champagne and wine! Is this enough of a small push to get you over the edge and dropping in on the Grand Cafe?
Tripping: I can still provide you with a ride since you seem to live a skip and hop away from me. (Sorry to hear about your job situation. This is such a crazy valley!)
Just got back from Seattle and airing out a warm house, otherwise I should be in bed. Will track this thread tomorrow.
Best GTGs are when Fodorites do it!

One last time
If anybody want to change the location, how about Borobudur restaurant, Indonesian food?
Location is 1 or 2 blocks away from Grand Cafe, clean quiet place where we can not only talk, but hear each other, check out the menu!
The only thing I don't understand if they serve alcohol and/or will allow to bring... everybody can bring a favorite bottle! I can call them.
A wine bottle is in a picture, but no mentioning of a wine list on the menu... strange!

Faina: Sorry, but I'm not a fan of Indonesian food - especially when there's the Grand Cafe to compare.
How about Cliff House?
Otherwise, there's a bunch of really great small restaurants - e.g., the other day we happened on a real charmer, Ristorante Parma, out near Lombard. Small place, good food, nice atmosphere - just a local place.
I heard of a place - Memphis Minnie BBQ Joint out in the Haight.
There's a seafood place that I've always wanted to try: Pacific Catch.
Then there's a German place: Suppenkuche...
Well, you get the idea.
Whatever is best for everyone...
