Genesee valley, New York State?

Hi! Will be in the NYC area end of August. Can someone suggest what is the best and easy way to get upto Genesee valley for the labor day weekend? What is the closest airport to here and can it be easily accessed from any of the NY area airports?

Thanks in advance
Hari

It really depends on exactly where you want to go. The "Genesee Valley" is a big area. There are airports in Buffalo, NY and Rochester, NY. Jetblue.com services both from JFK. But if, for ex., you want to go to Ithaca (where Cornell is located) you're really better driving.

Rochester.

I like to use maps.google.com. Plug in Geneseo NY and you'll see where it is.

Yeah, to get to Geneseo you need to either drive or fly into Rochester. (We have the world's most expensive airport though - price flights into Buffalo too.) Are you visiting the college? There isn't much else there...

From Buffalo it's only about an hour drive and the flights will be cheaper than Rochester. Agree, there isn't anything there except the college.

Oh, I disagree about Rochester! We're from Oregon, and flew in and out of Rochester on a pleasure trip to NY a couple years ago. Although we are seniors, we loved the Strong Museum, which is a wonderful children's museum. Inside is the Toy Hall of Fame. Another nice place to visit is the George Eastman House (Eastman/Kokak). He was a world traveler and had many interesting things in his home, plus a photography exhibit. We enjoyed several days in the area, visiting the Finger Lakes region, the Boxing Hall of Fame, Erie Canal, and very nice scenery everywhere. I was surprised at how rural that part of the state is.
We stayed at the Genessee Country Inn in Mumford, a few miles from Rochester. Charming!

Thanks, Yes - visiting people at the college and they are away travelling at the moment, so haven't been able to get in touch.

I think the "nothing much there" refers to Geneseo, not to Rochester.

No trip to the Genesee Valley is complete without a visit of the Museum of Jell-O in Le Roy. http://www.jellogallery.org
