Gas Prices in Nevada and California

Hi all,

Irish person spending 4 weeks driving around your fantastic country. When I posted recently about car hire I was recommended not to hire an SUV because of the high Gas prices. We have done so for the desert part of our trip (Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Las Vegas).

Question - What are the gas prices at the moment. In Ireland we pay 1.04 euro per litre of gas. Now this is where we get into the Gallon/litre conversion problems. But I can't imagine US gas prices come anywhere near how we are ripped of in europe???

Thannks for the help! 50 days till I walk on US soil again!!!

Here is current list of gas prices in the US. Keep in mind that there are about 4 litres to the gallon (give or take). I am not sure of the current exchange rate but you will find that gas is much cheaper here. Safe travels!!!http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petro...home_page.html

Figure roughly half the cost of what you pay at home. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Although the SUV may take twice as much petrol as you're used to, so you may come out even. And of course you'll likely be driving as far as six trips all the way around Ireland!

Price of gas usually goes up in the summer. California and Nevada have pretty similar prices for gas.

An SUV miles per gallon will differ with the different size SUV. Our suburban got around 10 mpg and the Expedition gets around 12 to 15 depending on the kind of driving you do.

You can check current gas prices in the cities where you'll be traveling at www.gasbuddy.com - the values are input by local residents, and you can see when they were last updated.

Agree that about 1/2 the price you currently pay is probably pretty close to reasonable. If you want to figure out what the US gas prices are per liter, take the per gallon price and divide by 3.78.

At today's exchange rate (~1.20), gas price is is ~ 0.53 to 0.58 Euro per liter in CA/NV. That's $2.3999 to 2.5999 range
