Wondering if pre-paid gas is a good idea .. what's approx gas price (reg unleaded) on Maui, more or less than $2/gal.

I regularly read the Maui newspaper via internet and there have been several articles about the price of gas. From what I've read, reg unleaded runs about $1.82 / gal. Have fun

Thanks, Alamo pricing at 1.65 so it'll be convenient, I'm sure we'll use a full tank, especially renting a jeep !

We have just returned this past Sunday from Maui.We paid $1.85 per gallon. However,if you rent a car,MAKE SURE you fill it up before you drop the car off at the rental office or the gas price jumps to $2.99 per gallon,at least it did with National Car Rental

Just returned from Maui, rented a car thru Alamo and did the pre pay gas.
After thinking about it...BIG mistake.
Probably one of the biggest money makers for the rental company. OK think...you pay for the first tank at the start..ok, how many people dont use the whole tank..if you don't, you just gave the company some extra profit. Even if you do use the whole tank and fill up again..guess what?? whatever is left in the tank at the end is free gas to them.
unless you run out of gas RIGHT as you return the car are you getting a better deal on the cost of gas..

Pre-paid gas is a rip off. No one returns the car totally empty.
