Gallagher's @ NYNY

Anyone have any feedback or opinions on the food, atmosphere, etc. at Gallagher's Steakhouse at NYNY? I made reservations for Valentine's Day.

It is a fine steakhouse but probably not what you would want for V-Day.

Next to Frankie and Johnny's it was the worst steakhouse experience I've had in New York. Terrible service -- an argument with the waiter who insisted after two attempts that a dry robroy IS made with sweet vermouth, just not much of it. Stone cold vegetables, dryed out potatoes, and very mediocre steaks with a lot of gristle!

I had a meal with a couple of friends at Gallaghers at NYNY last spring. We agreed that the food was of very good quality and served nicely. It just wasn't as great as I would have expected for a $200 dinner for 3 (no wine, couple cocktails). I had a better experience at Binions in Vegas, Ruth Chris and Mortons in Chicago.

I thought the aged sirloin I had there last year to be one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. I live in NY, but I found the Gallagher's here to be a real disappoint after a great meal at the Vegas location.

Would agree that if you are looking for a romantic environment, it might not be a great option.

BTW, I wouldn't consider the Smith and Wollensky's as another possible option. The steak I had there was awful. I love the original NY location but the Vegas spot isn't worthy of the name.

Why not try Craft Steak? If it is anything like the Craft restaurant in NY, it will be wonderful. Another thought would be to go to Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens in 'old' Vegas. Afterwards you can watch the light show on the covered street right outside the casino.

If you like steak, and you want a very special dining experience, try "Prime" in the Bellagio. I don't know if you'll be able to get a reservation (I'm sure they book up early for holidays), but if you can, it is well worth it. The food, ambiance and service were all superb.

I am guessing you are referring to the one in Vegas ?? Are you hooked on on steak or would something else work ?

Duh, I totally missed that you were talking about Las Vegas. My comments referred to the one in the real NYNY --you know -- like Manhattan, not the NYNY in Las Vegas!!!
