Fun things to do for ages 9 through 62 in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg.
What are the best things to do that would satisfy those from age 9 through 62--active things but not dangerous. Also, what are the best restaurant/dinner shows in this area?

The best dinner shows imo are Black Bear Jamboree and Dixie Stampede. Both are good fun shows.
One of my favorite shows to do with the grandgirls is The Comedy Barn. Good, clean, wholesome family comedy. I always thought it would be corny, but it is hysterical with much audience paticipation!
Shopping at the outlet malls is lots of fun.
Dollywood is a great amusement park.
The Old Mill is a good restaurant and The Log Cabin is good. Both of these are in Pigeon Forge.
Have fun and ask away on the questions.

Spent a weekend there recently with my mom, sisters and their kids who were visiting during spring break - we had ages 8 to 67. We were very pleasantly surprised with Ripley's Aquarium. Everyone enjoyed it.

Dollywood is a great park for all ages. It often has more senior citizens in the park than teenagers. There are good shows to entertain those who want to get out of the heat or who don't want to ride rides. There is a Country Fair area with rides for the young'uns. And with this year's addition of the Mystery Mine, Dollywood has flown to the top of the must-visit list for theme park and roller coaster enthusiasts. (i.e., your teenagers won't be too bored).
Dolly's Splash Country is a waterpark adjacent to Dollywood which requires a separate ticket.
If you're adventurous, you can take guided canoe trips in Pigeon Forge. http://www.mountainviewcanoes.com/
PF has seen a restaurant building boom in recent years and now has just about every chain place you can think of (Cracker Barrel, Johnny Carinos, Outback, TGI Fridays, etc). There are loads of pancake houses for breakfast (but my favorite is in Gatlinburg on the Parkway: Pancake Pantry -- cash only).
Of course there's all sorts of mini-golf courses and go-kart tracks too.

Rent fishing poles in Gatlinburg and head over to one of the "children's only" parts of the Little Pigeon River to catch trout. We did this with our kids, and they had a ball! That's where my little boy caught his first fish!

As you know, G'burg is the gateway to Great Smoky NP. There are 2 good restaurants: Best Italian & No Way Jose Mexican. In PF, we went to the Ole Smoky Hoedown show & it was fantastic fun for all ages.

I love the Park Grill in Gatlinburg which is near the park entrance on the left as you come from PF to Gatlinburg. I only go up there once a year for business and we always eat there and at Best Italian.

We have 3 must do's when we visit.
1) Dollywood
2) Black Bear Jamboree
3) Take a picnic lunch to chimney tops picnic area in the GSMNP. Stop at the Sugarlands visitor center and ask for directions (just a short 5 mile drive). You will be amazed at the scenery and there is a really nice easy (about a half mile) hiking trail there.

We have driven on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail which is just outside Gatlinburg. If you don't want to walk you can drive the whole trail, but there are many beautiful places to walk around and they are not "hard hiking trails." You don't mention the time of year that you will be there, but of course summer will be very busy in this area.

If you haven't left yet, check out smokiesbaseball.com. They have a great minor league baseball park that is fun for all ages and only a few years old. The Smokies are playing at home the 13th to the 23rd. Rates are reasonable as well.
