Looking for something to do at night other than nightclubs. We will already do that one night, but are looking for something for another night. Group of women ages 25-32.
Any good comedy clubs, theatre, or anything
different?
Open to ideas,
Thanks!

Galveston is about an hour's drive south of Houston. Their version of Mardi Gras is considerably tamer than the New Orleans version, but it is still a lot of fun. There is a HUGE annual rugby tournament there that weekend, so there will be lots of rugby players enjoying the festivities, too. The Strand is where Galveston's Mardi Gras is, and just a FYI, they close it down at midnight. (The Police link arms and walk down the main street and make everyone leave.) Still, there are lots of daquiris, cold beer and beads for everyone.

My husband and his rugby team have been going to the Galveston tournament for over 5 years and have never had a problem with gangs or riots. He says it is a very safe event, and lots of people bring their children.
I would much rather be there than at New Orleans with the pickpockets and muggers!

As for Mardi Gras The Knights of Momus parade at night is pretty neat. Lots of outrageous costumes and lights. There is a heavy police presence ever since a man got shot about three years ago, so it's pretty safe. My favorite comedy club is Laff Stop. I think its on West Gray just off Montrose. There is another on the south side called Comedy Showcase. The Alley Theater is good. There are also the Arena Theater and Arial Theater in Bayou Place downtown. If you do go to Mardi Gras, make a day of it. There is some great history in Galveston. The tours of Bishop's Palace, Ashton Villa, and the 1894 Grand Opera House are all interesting. There is a Burger joint on the seawall that does great gourmet burgers, soups, sandwiches, Po Boys, and the best onion rings I've ever had. They have an outdoor deck that is just across the street from the Gulf so you can look out over the water or people watch while you eat (weather permitting). It's called The Spot. They also have a bakery in-house. Willie G's on Harborside drive has good seafood. The Strand has several unique shops but might be a little crazy at Mardi Gras.
Brooke,
Hope this isn't too late. The Laff Stop is not far from the Galleria (15 minutes or so depending on traffic). Texas Rock Gym has two locations in Houston. The closest to the Galleria would be the one on the west side of town, off I-10.
