Cream? My mama never put no cream in C&D!
It's kinda like those trick questions on consumer report shows and the salad always have more calories and fat than the burger meal. The big 'ole muffins at Starbucks have more calories and fat than a chocolate glazed donut from Krispy Kreme.

Fried chicken that has been DEEP FRIED quickly and drained probably has less than old fashioned chicken and dumplings, which aren't any good unless they are cooked in the broth of a very fat hen. They are good because they soak up the fat. In fact, some cooks will add extra butter to make them richer.
Now, unfortunately, people don't use a fat hen and the dumplings are made without cream or eggs. Just water and a little oil. Phooey!! Chicken flavoring makes the broth taste chickeny, not the real thing. So I guess dumplings like that might have fewer calories....but they aren't old fashioned chicken n dumplings and you can tell your husband I said so!

My Gma and Mom always made their dumplings from just flour and water.
I always skim the fat off the broth before I put the dumplings in. I can't stand all that grease, yuck! You can even cool it in the frig for alittle while and remove all the hardened grease that way. This does NOT remove flavor.
..they are still tasty.
However I prefer chicken and rice! Then you can use brown rice, which is even better for you. So, I'd vote for the dumplings being less, but only if I make them.

That is about the most FOS rationalizations I've ever read here, Speedbuggy.
Attn Fodor editors: Before you start editing my posts again please note that "FOS" was used in the Budman Recipes thread. Obviously an OK expression.
Ya know, while I complain to the writers about these chit-chat threads, at least I don't cry to get individual comments deleted. MikeT: You notice that, right? Wazza matta? Kill the messenger? Thin Skin?

1. My comment was tongue in cheek.
2. If you are opposed to this thread, why top it instead of letting it continue to disappear into obscurity?
3. What is FOS?
4. Obviously there's a lot more to this for you with your cryptic messages to the editors and MikeT.
Hope you have a great day! And I personally could care less about either fried chicken or chicken and dumplings unless it's on my dinner table.

But of course starrsville!
It is one of the four southern food groups:
White Flour
Processed Sugar
Salt
Lard
Anything can be made from the combination of the above ingredients.
Got something healthy like a vegtable? That's okay, dip it in salted flour, fry it in lard, and you got yourself some good southern cooking!

I don't know about you guys and gals, but I travel to eat. Experiencing the food in other locales is one of the highlights.
I'm sorry if that offends, although this is one of the most unlikely threads I'd have ever nominated for "panties in a wad"-PIAW-status.
Some folks just like to gritch.
