How long were you looking to park?
If you were looking for a cheaper alternative than the overnight parking offered at your hotel, you would be better off just paying the parking fee.
If you're looking for short term parking, there are metered stalls at the zoo and around Kapiolani Park. The zoo parking is closer to the hotels. The meters need to be fed every 4 hours.
There is very limited free street parking on the side streets of Waikiki and along the Ala Wai, but these are really hard to find.

Parking at Waikiki Sunset is $11/day.
You can park across the street at Waikiki Banyan for $10/day.
Parking at Aqua Palms is $18/day. You can park nearby at Hale Koa Garage for $12/day. (The $7 rate is for Hale Koa guests)
Be careful parking along Ala Wai Blvd. They clean the street twice a week and no one is allowed to park there from 8am - 12n on those days (Monday & Friday I think). They will tow your car at 8:01am. Parking is free on Ala Wai Blvd, but very hard to find.
I think you are just as well off parking at the hotels you mentioned.

Twice recently, when staying at Aqua Palms, we parked along the canal, which is perhaps 200 feet from the entrance to the Aqua Palms. This was actually more convenient than the hotel parking, which required getting a gate opener and winding up several levels in a narrow annoying garage.
