Fredericksburg, TX for dinner?
My husband and I are in San Antonio on one of his business trips and it was recommended that we go to Fredericksburg because it is a very charming place.
The question is - would it be worth it to just go there for dinner/evening?

Fredericksburg is a historical town with lots of antique & souvinier shops, the Nimitz Museum, and a few lunch places. It's an interesting place to spend a few hours but I wouldn't recommend making the trip (about 75 miles) just for dinner.

I don't think so, no. There's a lovely restaurant on the far north side of town, Grey Moss Inn, that I believe is worth the drive. Fred is a long way to go for dinner. You may also want to look at going to Boerne which is closer and equally as charming.

Austin is right. You need at least an afternoon and an evening in Fredericksburg. Stroll down Haupstrasse/Main, visit the German bakeries, go to the Nimitz museum, etc. It makes a great short weekend getaway if you stay in one of the many B&B's. Or, go for the day during Gillespie County Fair, Oktoberfest, or Nights in Old Fredericksburg!!

Another option for an out of town dinner would be Gruene, TX - especially if the Gruene Dance Hall is open the night you are planning to go. Gruene is a wonderful little town out of New Braunfels, TX and is 36 miles away. One of best Texas night memories is dinner at the mill next door and dancing a warm summer night away at the dance hall.
