Sad rant: RIP, bright little shining star half a world away. You made more of an impact than you knew.

Rave: Gorgeous huge bouquet of flowers for our anniversary from my husband.

Rave/rant: Snow falling on pink flower blossoms just looks strange!

Wishing for a miracle to go Caph's way.

Rave: Just means that we're going to play tourists tomorrow in our hometown.

Rant: Fiance didn't get the promotion he so deserves

rant
Two black bears at a Richmond, VA zoo were put down yesterday after one of them bit the hand of a four year old child. The child had climbed 0ver a 4 foot fence, walked through a safety area, and put his hand through a wire fence. The bite did not require stitches. The child was with at least one parent. Zoo employees were heartbroken.

ronkala, your rant upsets me very much. Whatever happened to common sense?! Why on earth would they punish an animal for a parent's neglect. And, of course wild animals are dangerous. If they weren't, they'd be loose amoung the visitors. Very clearly, from what you've described, it was the parent and child at fault, not the animal.

I just want to thank all of you wonderful Fodorites very much for all the kindness and support I've gotten from this board. As I've said before, words cannot express how much it's helped me get through these past months. And it's very definitely helping me right now.

At this point, we have more questions than answers. But I'm hoping that by next week's FF R&R I'll have a lot clearer picture of just what's ahead of us.

Reading everyone else's rants and raves is very therapeutic too. So I hope there are lots of them today! Mostly raves, of course!

Rant - roads outside are sheets of black ice, and I'm leaving right now to go to a 7 am breakfast meeting where I have all the materials for 6 or 7 people.

Rave - after that, it's Friday!

Wish me luck.

Rave--Had jury duty yesterday, but they didn't want me

Rant--Caph's news.

Rave--Spring break plans in Victoria are all set!

Rant--DS was home all week with the flu.

Ronkala--Oh that is ridiculous! What in the world was that parent thinking?! That is awful about the bears.

Ethel--Every .5 pound adds up, so don't get discouraged!

Rant: Caph's news. Warm hugs to you. ><

Rave: Caph's incredible strength. You have my admiration and you and your DH will all get through this!

Rave: The caring, kind people of this board.

Rave: I cleaned out lots of closets and cabinets this week and all the while thought, if I were a damn cell phone, where would I be? LOL. Did you ever find your cell phone CAPH?

Rave: The Olympics are almost over. The ice skating competition just runs too late at night -- that's a rant.

Ethel, nice job losing the 1/2 pound. I've lost 1/2 pound too.

Ronkala, that doesn't make any sense!

Jorr, it took me a long moment to understand why in the world you would put the woodchuck up in the tree! DUH! The wind's picking up....I just know you're sending very cold temperatures our way again!

Have a safe and peaceful weekend everyone!

Caph - more loving and supportive thoughts sent your way.

The bears had to be euthanized to test for rabies. Stupid, stupid people thinking they can do whatever they want. To let a child climb over a fence to get closer to the animals is beyond comprehension.

Rave: People like my sister who have setbacks in their chemo but keep on trucking. Caph and her husband as well.

Rave: My best friend and I are meeting up for our first Scrabble in over 6 weeks tomorrow. She's having a valve replaced in her heart on Mar. 15- and we are also traveling parallel paths with our mothers, so it is very eagerly anticipated by both of us. We are turning off the phones and going to hide on her sunporch with the dogs for about 3 straight hours. YES!

Rave: Pets, especially my cockatiel Sydney who sang on my shoulder for 2 straight hours last night while I took a nap. They're company is priceless.

Rave: All the wonderful friends on these forums, one who bought me Sox/Blue Jays tickets for Toronto this week without ever meeting me, is going to "double-date" the game with us there, and just said "Pay me when you see me."

Rant: Cancer

Rave: My oldest grandson and my son's entire family of five are in Detroit this weeken watching him play in travel tournaments. The kid is a blonde clone of his father, a terrific athlete.

Rave: My daughter and other son who are taking extra days at my parents, which is no picnic.

Rave: This is for you movie buffs: Remember the mall that Belushi and Ackroyd drive through in the Chicago squad and semi demolish in the Blues Brothers? Well they are FINALLY bulldozing it today. It has been empty since 1979. YES, 1979. Government in action.

Gardyloo, good luck on your travels today!

JJ5, enjoy the time with your friend. Are you playing Scrabble the game?

a couple of other raves...

Rave: My son was on TV last week (2xs). I taped the basketball game (he's in the band) and there was a nice long shot of him. I thought it was so cute when I found him rewinding the tape and watching himself a couple of times when he stopped by last weekend.

Rave: My cardiologist. He is really a class act with wonderful communication skills.

it's friday!

rave: going home on long island for the weekend. can't wait!

rave: birthday plans, shaping up!

rave: helping my brother planning his first italy trip!

rave: my friends. it takes real friends to be there for each other, when it's not an easy, or desireable situation.

rave: my cousin got engaged this week!
never has looked so happy!

ronk...nothing drives me more crazy...
i don't care how large or small the animal is, or where it happens. to kill an animal when it acts like an animal is shameful. i could go on...

ethell...i heard once opportunity knocks very softly sometimes. perhaps this is suggestive of the things to come!

melissa...well done, congrats on the sale!

Yes, we have played Scrabble for 32 years. It used to be every week at a set time, and was then every other week for about 10 years. These last two years
have been brutal, but we play when we can. She is in WI now for various fractions of the year and I'm in MI.

She's 10 years older than I am and the best anagram person in the world, IMHO. We play 10 square no holds barred and she beats me more than 1/2 the time- only person who can. Her weakness is V's.

She started as my block neighbor, became my nanny and has been a surrogate Mom to me and my entire family
for almost all of my adult life.

That surgeon better be good.

We want a bridge built that goes over Lake Michigan about 1/2 way up. It would be the 8th wonder of the world.
