Good morning all.

Last night DH and I went to dinner. Needless to say we talked of little else besides the job situation and what to do about the HI trip. I am 99% sure this will be the plan:

Going to HI at this time is highly impractical on many levels. Of course, this is not a good time to be spending money, as there is so much uncertainty for the coming months. Then there's the issue of time. DH really should be spending all of his time and energy on finding a new job. Third, we are both so depressed it's hard to get excited about any vacation. Fourth, my job is so busy, it's really not a good time for me to be away from the office.

But having said all that, we've decided to say ____ it, we're going anyway!! The airfare was free (FF awards) and we've already paid for the condo and it's too late to get a refund. All that's left to pay for is the rental car, 2 nights lodging at the Volcano, and misc expenses. So phooey on life giving us this kick in the head, we're going to Hawaii!!

Thanks once again to everyone for your support, it really means a lot. And a special thanks to all who emailed me. Many hugs to all.

P_M, 'atta-girl!!! I'm betting it will all work out. After my husband had worked for one company for 30 years, it shut down ... we tried to find a job in that same area, for about a year (we loved PA, but the economy was awful!) We came (home ... mine, anyway) to North Carolina, and he ended up with a position with one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world, and it was the best thing that could have happened. It set us up for the future in a much better fashion than his old company ever could have!

When you go to Hawaii, have the best time you can, and try to believe it will all work out for the best! Many hugs to you, lady!

P_M, I applaud your decision--life is too short. Dag nabbit, where's that "do it now" thread?!?

bonniebroad - hey, long time no see ya! And yes ma'am, yours is still the best cobbler recipe I've found! I haven't made it since I've come back from vacation, but now wouldn't that just be "peachy" to serve with BBQ ribs on Monday! Thanks for the reminder!

AnnMarie - dag nabbit! I haven't heard that in a coon's age!

Where is that peach cobbler recipe? I'm with kopp. That would taste mighty fine this weekend.

Someone please bring it to the top.

Keeping this travel related, the best peaches are those found in Fredericksburg, Texas! Of course, if you can't get those, I suppose the ones from Georgia or California will do (in a pinch, lol).

To give credit where it is due, according to my recipe card, both Carolyn and Bonniebroad submitted this same recipe. I have substituted Splenda for the sugar (when I was doing low carb), but of course using the real thing is soooo delish:

Peach Cobbler

2 cups fruit (I use 3 cups)
Sugar to taste
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar (use more if using more peaches)
1 cup plain flour
1/2 cup milk
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder

Sweeten fruit to taste and heat through. Melt butter in a baking dish. Mix the sugar, flour, and baking powder together; stir in the milk. Pour this batter on top of melted butter, and pour the fruit on top of the batter. Do not stir. Bake at 350 degrees until brown. (Batter will rise to the top.)

An absolutely yum-yum recipe!

Bon appetit!

Sorry, kopp, but the best peaches come from Palisade, Colorado. I just bought a case from our local farmer's market. Thanks for the recipe - it will come in handy!

This is the only cobbler recipe we ever made when I was growing up...but we typically were using huckleberries or dewberrries. It's great with any kind of fruit!

P M, I as SO glad you decided to go on the trip. Heck, have hubby find a job opp in Hawaii and line up an interiew - and you may be able to deduct expenses for the travel to the interview.

OWJs - I am so sorry. I honestly get mad when I see folks who shouldn't be parents and realize folks like you have so much more to give - and I'm not referring to anything connected to money. If you need a quick getaway, there's one waiting for you less than 2 hours away at the right price - $0. And, let's "do lunch" or other sometime soon.

Missed Fodorville while I was on my brief trip. Glad to hear so much good news on this thread. Happy Labor Day weeked to all!

2 things: Best peaches, without a doubt, are right here in Upstate SC. And use buttermilk in that cobbler recipe, not regular milk.

Not to change the subject (but that is the subject of FFRR I think) it seems I've just had my first post removed and it happened in the dark of night...

I had posted on the Europe board about Martin Sheen going to university in Ireland. It got into a discussion on civil obediance and now, poof...it's gone and I don't know what I missed!

I guess that's a Rant unless it's some sort of right-of-passage. Then it could be a Rave.

Thoughts are with all for their joys and sorrows.
