My sympathies, too, about Shayna Kitty -- but remember the good times. And when you're ready to open your heart to another, there will be a cat who is ready to love you!

FYI: for Max's picture, scroll down about 1/4 of the way; he's in the left column:

Tiff- My rave was going to be the house painter came to finish the house this morning. He's not at my house yet.

CD- Maybe you need to get on the phone to your contractor and be "the sqeeky wheel gets the oil". Someone gave me that advise about my doctor once and it worked.

Pam- Good luck! I had my one and only garage sale years ago and when I opened the garage door eight professional garage sale early birds scrampled under the door when it was half open and started rummaging through the garage while the garage door fell on my head. Then a friend who wanted to sell some cloths at my sale showed up in her car and opened up her hatch back and they ran over and pulled cloths out. We couldn't believe there were actually people like that!!! The sale ended when my chair leg broke, landing me on the concrete drive...in 95 degree heat.

So Sorry about Shayna but I'm sure you didnt' want her to suffer.

Re: interviews - I am in the same boat! Don't you just hate the being grilled and the pages of standard questions. I did have an interview this week at a medical center with 3 doctors (for same job) and it was refreshingly free from those standard questions. Instead we talked about research, grants, and other interesting topics. Had another for a part-time job in a library (in addition to my full time job) and there were 3 pages of questions!! I have an ecclectic mix of public relations, grant writing and office so the office people think I'm overqualified and the pr/grant people want me to be aggressive which I'm NOT... Can't wait till I have my Masters degree in counseling and am licensed to practice privately - but that will take about 4 more years...at best.

Hello everyone. Yes jorr, what is the rave?? I too "jump" when the phone rings in the middle of the night which it did a couple of nights ago. A friend in Italy calling to tell me he will call me in a couple of days. Hello, was that a necessary call, LOL.
So you have my sympathies jorr

Dear OWJ, you know how you and Shayna are in my thoughts and prayers. Take good care of yourself and know how fortunate you two were to have each other.

Tiff, thank you for asking. Yes that miserable virus/flu has passed. Now just need to take a few days to get my stength back. Tiff, I hope there is not any tiny pieces of glass in your pool. When I had a pool a guest dropped a glass salad bowl (I should have used plastic) and the pool service co. insisted on draining the pool and vacumning cleaning it to make sure there wasn't any dangerous bits. What a scary situation that must of been for you.

Hi Go Travel, you put me to shame, I haven't even taken a walk this week.

Bennie, I agree with you. Often the simple things are the best.

Meesthare, best wishes to you with your real estate and your move. Victoria is so beautiful.

Bonniebroad, you are fantastic. BTW, I read this am that a majority of NW flights are late now and it is assumed that the NW employees are doing a "work slowdown" due to the labor problems.

cd, I never understand either why contractors don't finish the job in a timely manner so they can get 100% paid. Weird!

P_M, let us know about the job interview and also did you have to go from Plan A to Plan C LOL!. Best wishes to both you and your DH. Hope he has a beautiful birthday with good news for both of you.

ethel, a burning box! Did someone put a cardboard box on your stove? I use to yell at my DD for dumping items on the stove. Good way to lose your house for sure. Thank goodness your DH caught the problem in time.

mms, lucky you, Scarlett and her guys will soon be in your area.

jorr, hope the painter has arrived by now. I still haven't found one that is licensed and insured for the exterior painting of the house. What is it with those guys. Well my DH always said that they uhm, didn't think things through correctly due to smelling all the paint fumes for years, LOL.

To all of you I wish a beautiful weekend and hope that everyone living in a hot area gets lower temps soon.

Hugs to all that are dealing with stress and problems.

My rave for the week is all the beautiful people here on Fodors. CinCin to all of you.

Uh oh, Jorr.
Maybe he's "on the way"???????

Stopped off for a lil lunch somewhere????

I bet you're going to be SO happy when it is all done!

What color? Tiff

OWJ, I'm sorry about your Shayna.

Rave: starting to get excited about this pregnancy! I feel great and BabyDil seems to be fine so far.

Rave: I have my reservations to fly to Indianapolis in October to see the Lord of the Rings museum exhibit! Yes, I'm a major Tolkien geek. This will be the first time they've shown the entire exhibit and I'm really looking forward to it.

Rave: I may be able to get together with some of my online friends while I'm there. We've met IRL before, but haven't seen each other for a few years.

Rant: Almost-10yo ds woke up with a big sore throat this morning. I had to take him with me while 17yo had her wisdom teeth out (she is doing pretty well, thankfully). Ds threw up in the van and at the oral surgeon's office. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Rant: Guess who gets to clean out the van now? Fortunately, he hadn't eaten any breakfast.

Other than that, life is good! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Lee Ann

Oh OWJ! I'm sooo sorry about Shayna kitty!

I had to put my beloved Siamese down at Christmas and it broke my heart!

Since he had been sick (2 1/2 years), I had some time to grieve before hand and went out the next day and adopted a new kitty.

She healed my heart.

Then she stole my heart.

I still miss my dear departed goofy Fred The Kat and I still grieve however, the new kitty is very loved and loves me in return.

My other cat likes to stuff her under furniture on occaision but that's okay. They love each other.

Adopt another kitty. It will help so much!

Ooops, it was ArkansasNurse not you BonnieBroad that posted about her miserable flights with NW. Sorry about that, didn't mean to confuse you, LOL. Take care.

Good afternoon, all. The interview is over. Whew!! It was a lot less formal than I expected, probably because it's with my same company and most people in that office already know me. Thanks for all of your good wishes and your input on my strategies. I didn't expect Plan C to be so popular.

As it turns out the department head was called out of town, so instead my interviewer was a lady. Therefore, Plan C was blown straight out the window. I went with Plan A and I think it was effective. I hope to hear something soon. If I do get the job, I will do a virtual dance on this board. Not sure how, but I will find a way.

OWJ, I know what a difficult day this is. I still remember the day we said goodbye to our dog. One of my biggest regrets in life was not listening to her when she first told us she was ready to cross the rainbow bridge. I'm glad you were more perceptive than we were. You must remember that you did the right thing. Shayna is now in kitty heaven where she will have endless balls of string to play with, mice to chase, and catnip. She knows how much you loved her, she knows the lengths you went to in trying to heal her, and she knows that releasing her was the ultimate act of love. As for you and OWJ2, it will take some time, but there will be healing.

Hugs to the rest of you who are dealing with health issues, whether your own or that of a loved one.

I would like to end this post on a happy note, so I will post a new rave.

Rave: The survival of all passengers in the Air France accident this week. Kudos to the flight crew for getting everyone out so quickly!!

Hello Fodorville!

Rave: Weather is finally cooling off, so I'll be paddling the new canoe down the Sauk River on Sunday with my DH.

Rave: It's the last day of work for my least favorite co-worker (she's, how should I say it, not filled with morals when it comes to other people's husbands - or anything else). By next week, she'll be two time zones away. Not nice, I know, but...Yay!

Rave: That the Doobie brothers keep truckin' on. Makes me feel good to know it.

LoveItaly,
Yes, someone did leave a box on the burner--me I was trying to do too many things at once, turned the wrong burner on and went outside to tend to the grill. Thankfully, my bf caught it before it was too late...I'll never live that one down...New rule in the house, though--nothing other thans pots and pans on the stove!!!

Tiff- beige with light grey-green trim and white shutters. The house is about 80 years old and has the original shakes four sides top to bottom. Its the only house of its kind in this area which still has shake siding. It was the pour-man's siding back in the twenties and now its unafforable for most new homes.

I don't think the painter is coming today. And I suppose my dog is also disappointed. I can tell how much painting has been going on by how much new paint he's got on himself.

And speaking of home contractors, they are the most hard to get people known to man.

Lovely, Jorr, simply lovely. Such great color and by the time your wonderful 80 year old home is done, it will be well worth the wait. Originial shakes, I so do love homes with character!

Wish I had a little paint brush icon for you. How about I just send you that the painters will return?!?

In case anyone was curious (there have been a few comments), the Doobie Brothers were up there with one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

It just doesn't get any better then China Grove.

Last night was the fifth or sixth time I've seen them and I'd see them again tonight if I could.

RAVE: HONOLULU GTG is this evening! Can't wait to meet more fodorites!

Rant: Got to rent a car for another week. Why is it that our parked car got hit by an idiot and I'm the one shelling out $$$ for rental cars and repairs? All because he was lucky enough to hit her old car. If he'd hit my newer car, they would have had to cover evertyhing. Something is wrong with the insurance industry...

RAVE: 50 posts and no anti-FFR&R posts yet.

Best wishes and good thoughts to all.

PM- I'm glad the interview went great. My most difficult interview was when unexpectantly Eight people showed up in the room to ask me questions.

OWJ, I am so sorry that you must lose your loving little companion, Shayna. My heart goes out to you ... I have lose two Cairn Terriers, and each one took a little chunk of my heart!

LoveItaly, that's okay ... I was enjoying being "fantastic" for a minute there!

P_M, Sounds as though your interview went well, although I'd hoped there'd be juicier details to pass on!

Jersey, I know about that corn in Jersey! We lived in Sicklerville for awhile, and gorged ourselves on the vegetables in summer. Now, we could have this big ole debate here .... where are the veggies best, New Jersey or North Carolina? :-? But we won't ....

Seetheworld, sending you a hug ... you WILL survive your son leaving home; it just doesn't FEEL like it!
