Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 8-5-05

Rant: A friend called in the middle of the night with nothing to say. It scared the h out of me.

Rave: humm.....later.

GoTravel Aug 5th, 2005 04:34 AM

Rave: My first really long run in the morning!

Rave: Saw the Doobie Bros at the House of Blues last night in Myrtle Beach and they were excellent!

Rave: I'm guilt free carb loading for my long run!

ncgrrl Aug 5th, 2005 04:38 AM

woo-hoo, I'm #3.

Hasn't been as hot this week (rave).

Was able to get some travel(l)ing in this week (rave).

No rants from me

Eeva Aug 5th, 2005 04:41 AM

Rave- Spending time with family visiting from CA.

Rant--Summer seems to be going too quickly.

Rave--Summer is going too quickly because I was fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks in HI and have family visiting since my return.

bennnie Aug 5th, 2005 04:44 AM

Rave:Simple things in life that should be appreciated. A good book, a clean house, a nice dinner.

Rants: Absolutely nothing to rant about. Life is good.

Meesthare Aug 5th, 2005 04:47 AM

Rave: We listed our house for sale at noon yesterday, and half an hour later there were requests by agents for showings.
Rant: The house was filled with people last night examining our lives in detail.
Rave: Maybe somebody will buy it!
Only 6 more weeks until we move to Victoria - we're counting down the days.
Have a great weekend, everybody.

bonniebroad Aug 5th, 2005 04:49 AM

RAVE: The good, early response to our NC GTG for November (but, ncgrrl, where are YOU? :-) )

RAVE: Loved one battling alcohol is doing well and communicating! My hopes are high ...[-o<

RAVE: DGD arrives a week from today ... and the movies, baking, beach & pool adventures begin! :-d

RAVE: Weight holding at a reasonable level, even with all the tomato sandwiches, corn-on-the-cob and Margaritas. Thanks be to the Gods!

RAVE: Go Travel got to see The Doobie Bros.!!! :-d

RANT: I didn't! :((

RAVE: The heat in central NC will DROP all the way to the LOW 90's over the weekend! Wow ... 8-| Better get my sweater out! :D

Have a wonderful weekend, fellow Fodorites!

cd Aug 5th, 2005 04:51 AM

Rant: Honest to Pete, or is that honest to John? Anyway, it is the third week that no workman has showed up to finish the lower level. Don't get it, you would think they would want to finish and get the rest of their money!!!

Rave: Fresh corn-on-the cob!

I wish everyone a happy and healthy weekend.

P_M Aug 5th, 2005 04:54 AM

Rave: Happy Birthday to my DH!! ((^))

Rave: DH and I both have interviews today!! As some of you know, we both learned a couple of months ago that we were losing our jobs. It was a strange coincidence because we don't work in the same industry. Anyway, by some weird quirk of fate, we both have interviews today, on DH's birthday.

Rant: YIKES, an interview!! I haven't been to an interview in 9 years. :O How shall I conduct myself? Should I:

A. Be myself, putting my best foot forward.

B. Talk endlessly about my greatness, while telling vicious lies about my competitors, or

C. Sleep with the boss.

I'm leaning toward C, as it seems the least nerve-racking. But as always, I welcome the input of the Fodorites. Please hurry, my interview is at 11 am in the Fodor time zone....

bonniebroad Aug 5th, 2005 04:59 AM

Does your boss look like Harrison Ford? :D If so, then go for it!

P_M Aug 5th, 2005 05:06 AM

LOL!! The head of that department makes Woody Allen look like a hunk. Yet option C still seems better than being grilled with questions for an hour or so....I'll give it some thought. :-?

ethel Aug 5th, 2005 05:07 AM

Rant: Almost burnt my house down 2 nights ago
Rave: Made me realize how unprepared we are for a fire. Will remedy that situation.

Rant: Some needed "downsizing" of my wardrobe needs to be done this weekend. Unfortunately, it's not the type of downsizing I wish it was. It's getting rid of things, not getting smaller clothes. Weight loss seems to be at a stand still right now, but like Bonnie, have decided to maintain until Labor Day.
Bonnie---would love to get some tips from you as you seem to be on the right track. Apparently, counting calories and exercising just isn't enough for me.
Rave: New chifferobe to replace my old broken dresser will be a blessing.

RAVE: My rants are so minor in comparison as to what they could be. Like, I might not have a place to live right now if my bf hadn't caught the burning box on the stove.

Happy Weekend everyone!

seetheworld Aug 5th, 2005 05:08 AM

LOL...PM, I'd start with "A" and if you find that isn't going so well, I think you have no choice but to go to plan "C"! Good luck to both of you :D

Rave: PM's dear husbands' birthday ((^))

Rave: GoT ran her first long run and lived to tell about it :D

Rave: GoT saw the Dobbie Brothers! Wow, that brings back such good memories :D

I'll have to post back and I must head to the Post Office to send OWJ her post cards. I'm sending so many, that I have to have the envelope mailed, lol!

See ya later :D

iceeu2 Aug 5th, 2005 05:08 AM

Rave: P M's since of humour...made my morning!:-d

Rant: Loved one battling life's big C.

Cassandra Aug 5th, 2005 05:08 AM

Rave: dear friend and neighbor does not have bladder cancer -- and was able to get medical people hereabouts to move up all tests and get results in time for her and her DH to go on 40th anniv. cruise to Scandanavia and Russia. For once, some good medical news.

Rave: bonniebroad is collecting Carolinian (and maybe a Virginian or two) Fodorites in Nov. See y'all there!

Rave: a break in the rants, for once.

jersey Aug 5th, 2005 05:16 AM

Another hot and humid day here in Central New Jersey. The weather promises to break this afternoon and return to the mid-eighties where it, hopefully, will stay for awhile.

Rave: Going out with my two youngest DD's. Shopping for college stuff. Yikes...that leads me to remembering DD#2 is off to college soon. WAAA!

Rave: Leaving for San Diego in a week and a half. DH and I are looking forward to a week with no family around.

Rant: Dad, who lives with us, has to have surgery next week. He has such severe spinal stenosis that it is affecting the quality of his life. As a nurse, I am conservative about surgery yet see no alternative for him. His neurosurgeon and I reviewed the MRI to gether and it was just ugly.
Oh well. At least he is the healthiest 78 year old I know.

PM- Be confident and be yourself because we Fodorites are just generally amazing people. Therefore all will be well. Seriously, good luck and knock 'em dead!

Rave- New Jersey corn on the cob. Bonnie and CD, the garden state is called that for a reason. We LOVE corn.
And a Margarita to wash it down with never hurts. LOL

Have a great weekend...try to stay cool, and be safe.

jersey Aug 5th, 2005 05:21 AM

By the way, if you are in Central New Jersey and want tomato's, stop by. My first foray into gardening has produced a bumper crop. I knew I had a green thumb, but ghee whiz. I made about 2 gallons of marinara sauce to freeze yesterday.

DD's calling...off to shopping.

ronkala Aug 5th, 2005 05:24 AM

Rave
Arrived home yesterday after a great trip three week trip driving to the Canadian Rockies. What fantastic awesome sights.

Rant
The idiot in Canada who after waiting on the shoulder for northbound traffic to pass made a U-turn and didn't see me coming in thesouthbound lane. I hit the brakes and stopped inches from broadsiding him. His wife was petrified. He just sat there in the middle of the highway staring ahead.

rant
the steak fondue in Medora, ND

elizabeth_reed Aug 5th, 2005 05:29 AM

Rave: fresh produce. Our own tomatoes are ripening. At this time of year I go to the farmers market a few times a week, then make corn on the cob one night, new potatoes with my chive dressing the next night. We never seem to tire of those two!

Rave: a new kitty may be joining our household. Max is 6-7 months old, very cute and affectionate. We are on a two-week trial but it looks like he'll be staying. Fourteen-year-old Garth has been hissing a bit, but is still king of the castle. (Back history: our beloved little Reba cat died very suddenl, as reported in a FFR&R in May.)

Rave: nice weather!!

margot55 Aug 5th, 2005 05:33 AM

meesthare - good luck on the house sale and the move :)>-

bonniebroad - way to go with the weight maintenance! =D>

P_M - Happy "New Year" to your DH and to your multiple choice question I say "D" - all of the above! ;)

i2 - thoughts and prayers go out to your loved one's fight with cancer ((l))

Rave: StuDudley for his invaluable help on the European board in drafting a detailed itinerary for our 3.5 days in Provence!!! You're the best, Stu!

Rant: Speaking of "European", I find myself having to scold our dear Quincy pup, "European where you shouldn't be again!" ;)

Rave: Mom came home from the nursing/rehab facility this week, 3 months after her aspiration pneumonia started this whole ordeal

Rant: Speech therapist gave her the straight talk on the grave dangers she faces if she attempts to eat or drink again (another, possibly fatal bout of pneumonia), and thus urges her to stay on the feeding tube the rest of her life. Mom started crying upon hearing this, and it was truly heartbreaking to see...

Rave: Whole family will meet for a reunion in Ft. Lauderdale next month to celebrate our parents 65th wedding anniversary.

Happy and fun weekends one and all!
