Greetings all Fodorites looking forward to fall travels ~

(oh yes, and the rest of you too!)

kopp ~ welcome home!

brandie ~ hope the mouth feels better soon, doll - - lots and lots of Haagen Daaz!

razzle ~ so if Pluto symbolizes death and Pluto has officially ended as a planet, that can't be good for us, right?????

Oh my heavens PM ~ please, my sweetheart, Tiffie wants you to get RID of the spark flying hairdryer. (And you have my sympathy, my hairdryer of more years than I can remember is on the Pluto path itself. It will be a sad day, I'll keep you posted.)

BayouGal ~ sweetie, I am thinking of you now and will think of you this fall. Continue to tell his stories and how very much he protected you all. What a tribute.

OWJ & OWJ2 ~ Still holding you close in my prayers, darlins.

Rant ~ After 15 years of dedicated service to her kindergarteners and all summer of getting her classroom and supplies ready, what did the school board say to my friend three days before class was to begin? They told her she (and another teacher - both very kind and do not like confrontation) that they had to either take a six grade or fourth grade class this year and that they had to decide right then and there. She is a sweet lady, has a difficult time standing up for herself, but still had the courage to stand up and say that she needed at least 24 hours to think about it. Folks, this is a teacher that spends half her salary so that “all her kids” have what is needed for the school year.

The same day (prepare yourself for this one) the school board honored their long term employees with a lunch, and gave my friend her 15 year dedication pin. What a joke! They should have honored her by allowing her to continue in her classroom or by giving her more notice that she needed to switch so at least she could prepare a curriculum, prepare her classroom, prepare for SIX graders for heaven’s sake after 15 years of little kindergarteners.

I was just blown away by this, I could be possibly overreacting due to the fact that I know how truly loving and kind and generous she is, and what a fine teacher the children have in her. And it just seemed such a slam to the dedicated service she has provided, she is SO loyal. Forgive me if I have overdone it a bit.

To teachers everywhere, you are my RAVE this week. God Bless all of you, may you all have the salaries of our over-rated celebrities. You are my heroes!

May you all have a beautiful weekend!

Jorr-dont take it too hard. Back in the 1500's they went from thinking the world was flat to knowing it was round, an from thinking the Earth was the center of the universe to knowing it rotated around the sun in only 60 years time. Now THAT's a change in education!

RAVE: 8 weeks to go and still running 3 miles a day. This kid has been kind to me.

RANT: Allergies. I look like I've been trying to dig my eyes out with a spoon.

Rant: Bad hair cuts. I look like the little Dutch boy/girl

Rant: My 82 (!) year old co-worker loves it. Said I look like a flapper

Rave: I have hair and it grows fast

Rave: Booked the flight for a sister weekend. It's a big deal. Split family. I have never spent any time with all four of them at once. The funeral doesn't count.

Rave: Ice cream social tomorrow. Home made ice cream and champagne. I'll wear a hat

Raves to all with good news, Marigross, angethereader, Ani, Melissa and those with trips planned.

Tiff - no one deserves to be treated that way, especially kindergarten teachers. To go from K to 4th or 6th in 3 days boggles the mind. Such a difference in curriculum. What was their final decision?

SB - Now I get it . No offense taken whatsoever

Rant: sistahlou,we are visiting an old friend tomorrow evening who is in the end stages of ALS. Until a year ago he was a vibrant 55 year old psychiatrist. He is wheel chair bound , can hardly speak and is fed with a tube. It's a wicked disease. I am sorry for you and your friend.

Rave: foot fractures heeling and I can now buy shoes for our trip to Montreal.

Rant: Sunday is a day off and the garden will get some tending finally.

Rant: what happened to Tiff's friend. As a teacher, I would be incensed!! Unfortunately, this is not uncommmon. My friend was given two days notice to switch grades after preparing all summer and buying supplies for what she thought was her assigned grade. UGH!

Rave: I am teaching the same grade this year I taught last year. I LOVE second graders! They are just the sweetest.

Rave: My 3 children have something special planned for me this morning in honor of my upcoming big 4-0 birthday and DH has some surprise planned for tomorrow that includes my 7 closest friends. My actual birthday is the 31st but with school starting, we will celebrate early. No complaints from me, other than turning 40! I love surprises and can't wait to see what is planned! My family is so good to me.

Rant: Pluto. I guess someone will have to make all new "space" material for the teachers now. Befuddling.

Rave: My turn to host youth group Sunday night dinner for 50 kids! It's a lot of fun. I decided to make breakfast for dinner and on the menu is Bonniebroad's Hawaiian bread-yummo!

Happy Friday to all!

Brandie: Healing thoughts!

Marigross: Good thoughts for your daughter and for a diagnosis.

Ani: I think you are amazing!

Sistahlou: So sorry to hear about your friend. What terrible news.

Tiff: I second your teacher rave!

Rant: I have deodorant on my black shirt and I spilled coffee down my gray pants. Yeah, it's a minor rant, but it's still kind of annoying.

Rave: I've got a bottle of prosecco chilling in the fridge for after work.

Rant: "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Me Nine __________." It's just not the same anymore.

Rave: Another beautiful hike planned for tomorrow. I love where I live!

Best wishes for a good weekend!

Rave: Fall light beginning to play on the water in MI, and I'll see it again next weekend.

Rave: GD who has entered Jr. High and is SO excited. Telling me all about her different notebooks and class changes.

Rave: Andy my Grandson and the Little League Team from Lemont IL who made to the World Series playoffs but lost to Oregon after several wins there. Great job!

Rave: Mallory, Roman in school and loving it.

Rant: Debilitating illnesses like L. Gehrig's and any wasting or neurological diseases. What understanding and strength it takes every day is beyond words. I know.

Rant: Job injustice, it is pervasive in so many fields, and Academia is one.

Here's to good starts, good trips for those who depart, and a prayer for all those fighting a hard fight.

One last rave: White Sox

Happy Friday Everyone!

It's cooler and a little rainy this week in Northern NJ...a nice change from the scorching heat we had a couple weeks ago. My garden is happy, and so am I.

Rave: I designed a girlie tee shirt for girls who love Volvos (yeah, I know I'm a geek and I'm ok with it.) It's been very well received. I even sold a couple yesterday!

Rave: Had a fun time bottling wine last weekend with Budman and friends...and the young wine is tasty too!

Rave: Less than 3 weeks 'til long weekend in Lake Placid, NY

Rave: New friend sent me a present...a pair of Donald J. Pliner shoes (she works in the shoe business)...what a treat. My feet are now completely spoiled and my shoe price point has about doubled!

I think I'd have fun with an ORANGE Mini-Cooper Convertible! Too bad it's not a Volvo!

Have a great weekend!! Trish

Trish, I had a '79 Volvo for YEARS, I loved that car. Later when it was time to trade it in, I instead donated it to the Aids Foundation. Hopefully someone else is enjoying her now.

She was good to me!
