Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 8-25-06

Rant: Pluto is no longer a planet as of today. My whole education was for nothin'!

Rave: Tested my generator for powering the house in case the electricity goes out for a long period of time. It works fantastic and does everything I paid for. Lights, heat, refrigerator, TV, microwave, computer.

Rave: I bought the generator on the internet. There were no generators available at local stores including Home Depot. Its portable and I can use it anywhere including friends who might loose electricity.

sistahlou Aug 24th, 2006 07:45 PM

RAVE: All NewOrleans and their neighbors!!!! May the healing continue.

razzledazzle Aug 24th, 2006 08:41 PM

Rant: WOW on the Pluto news.
As one who used to do professional level horoscopes this will realy mess up the reality and hoeey that is astrology. Pluto symbolizes death, rebirth, sex, evolution, degeneration and regeneration, and symbolizes the breakdown of psychological blocks that prevent evolutionary growth.
That's alot of id to cover, yes ?

Rave: The PBS special on Cezanne this week-fabulous

Rant: The zillion dollar landscaping correction in my yard that postponed
finishing the kitchen re-do.

Rave: I have a kitchen-amen, sistalou, may New orleans
continue to heal

Rave: Honolulu GTG this weekend!

Rave: Got tickets and hotel reservation this week for the Boston GTG in October!

Rant: trying to plan Bangkok/Cambodia trip for Christmas. Got hotels lined up, but can't seem to get the air tickets...all the discount TAs say they wont have fares till the end of Sept, but I know the Honolulu-Tokyo seats will sell out before then....

MelissaHI Aug 24th, 2006 11:33 PM

Rave: Honolulu GTG this weekend!

Rave: Got my Chili Red Mini Cooper (a.k.a. My Little Midlife Crisis)!

Rave: This week I established a relationship with an agency called "Hawaii Tourism Europe." This is an agency that promotes tourism to Hawaii, in Europe. We've already got good relations with "Hawaii Tourism Asia." This rave probably means nothing to most people reading, but I just had to share!!!!

Rave: Vegas for Christmas. Nuff said.

Rant: I need a new computer.

Hugs to our friends in NOLA!

April Aug 25th, 2006 12:28 AM

Razzledazzle - will this mess up my grand trine involving Pluto?

MelissaHI - ooo, I would love a red mini Cooper.

Rave: I'm making great headway in reorganizing and paring down. No more wasting money on storage.

Rave: Our neighbourhood baby gulls are learning to fly.

kopp Aug 25th, 2006 03:56 AM

What's this about no more Pluto?

MelissaHI: Vegas for Christmas sounds pretty cool! However did you manage the time off at that time of year?

Rave: After 6 weeks on the road, it's soooo good to be home again. Felt like kissing the ground when we landed! ((K))

Rave: The wonderful people we met on our trip from every corner of the world. One thing in common always seemed to come out in the conversations: A desire for peace on Earth.

Rave: Grown children who are finally starting to act like adults! ((L))

Rant: It's still blazing hot here in Austin. Hello you Canadians - it's time to send down your cool weather!

Rave: BBQ ribs tonight! Too many weeks without my weekly fix :@) !

Happy weekend y'all!

P_M Aug 25th, 2006 04:07 AM

Rave: Kopp is back and she was kind enough to bring me some cognac chocolates from Switzerland!! We will be meeting soon, I hope. :-)

Kopp, an astronomer friend of mine did an interview with Channel 8 about Pluto, I'll post the link. I had lunch with this guy yesterday, but we had to wait for him to finish filming this for the news. If you click the link in the middle of the page you can watch the video.

Rant: My 7-year-old hair dryer has been shooting sparks at my head. I know what you are thinking, this is a good thing because it speeds up the drying process. But I think I'll pop for a new hair dryer, and use this one as a sparkler on the 4th of July. **==

Rave: My new cyber-pal SpeedBuggy and all of my other Fodors pals.

Rant: Our injured Honda is stil in the Honda Hospital,

BUT

Rave: The tow truck driver's insurance company has already sent us a check to cover the damage. WOOHOO!! ((Y))

Wishing everyone a happy and safe weekend. ((*))

P_M Aug 25th, 2006 04:15 AM

Rave: I almost forgot--35 days, 12 hours and 4 minutes until my flight leaves for Hawaii!! But who's counting? :-))

kopp Aug 25th, 2006 04:27 AM

Ah, yes, the cognac chocolates! They are safely hidden away in one of my "secret" places in the house, away from the prowling hands of others, lol! Soon, P_M, very soon!

sistahlou Aug 25th, 2006 04:29 AM

Rave: PM now its 35 days 11 hours and 29 minutes!

BayouGal Aug 25th, 2006 04:30 AM

((y)) All Fodorites who are so caring, supportive, and understanding - God bless you!

((y)) My dear Cajun husband who is always there for me, telling me it's gonna be alright!

((N)) Politics is a part of life in the U.S., but sure wish it wasn't. The emotional and physical toll of Katrina is more than enough to deal with.

((Y)) My dad, who passed away last fall, a good man that taught us how to protect ourselves and survive.

((Y)) My travel buddies and dear friends, Jetset and matnikstym!

((Y)) My upcoming vacation to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons!

((N)) Storm brewing off South America.

((y)) & ((n)) Youngest child leaving for college over Labor Day holiday.

((N)) Decisions - My hospital is still closed - where do I go to work now?

marigross Aug 25th, 2006 04:33 AM

Rant: Big scare with DD's gall bladder, we feared she would need emergency surgery.

Rave: The sonogram and labwork results were clear!

Rant: Pediatric Gastrointerologist thinks it could be an ulcer so we have to do more tests and go on a fat-free, no-irritant diet. Try that with a 13yr old!

Rave: Our wonderful Pediatrician made all the arrangements so that we could do all the tests within 24hr without hospitalization. He personally made the appointment with the Pediatric Gastrointerologist for that very same day while we were in his office.

Rant: There is such a shortage of specialist and sub-specialist doctors in Puerto Rico! They are all moving to the US. If our doctor had not made the appointment we would have had to wait for weeks or just go to the emergency room.

Rave: Ulcers are a nuissance but completely manageable. We are all in good health...TGIF!

angethereader Aug 25th, 2006 04:43 AM

Rant: Pluto is no longer a planet - so what do I do with the mnemonic I learned in school?

Rant: Am I getting so old that I still can't get used to the global warming idea? When I was in high school we were heading into an ice age! I wish they would make up their minds.

Rave: 6 days till my 21 year old son returns from a year in Japan! I can't wait to give that kid a hug.

Rave: 3 weeks till my very first Fodor's GTG! I am so excited! I'll finally get to put some faces to the names.

Rant/Rave: DH is going up north this weekend. He'll be gone by the time I get home from work today. I'm not used to being alone, but then maybe I'm looking forward to some alone time.

SpeedBuggy Aug 25th, 2006 05:14 AM

((Y))BG, I like the thumbs up better than the R/R. LOL

((N)) I'm with Jorr - all this education gone to waste!

((Y)) For those recovering from the past year's tragedies in the U.S. - storms, fires, etc - you are in our thoughts and prayers, and we are with you, no matter what the media may say!! ((y))

((Y)) Wise investment, jorr. Just make sure you have gas cans (if it's not natural gas). If it does run on natural gas - REALLY WISE investment! :)

((Y)) Brandie, feel better and sorry to hear that the toe joined in the assaults on your body! :(

((Y)) Hawaii GTG, sure wish I could be there! Heck, I'd like to be there with or without the GTG! ;-)

((Y)) MelissaHI, cruising in her little red Cooper.

((Y)) Welcome back, Kopp! ((N))Is it you we should thank for our wasted educations? Not a planet - who would have thunk it!

((Y)) My buddy P_M. Throw that blow dryer away before you fry more than your hair! :)

((Y)) Our trip to Yellowstone in a couple of weeks. Maybe we could have a GTG there, BG? :)

((Y)) Hang in there with DD, Marigross. Have they checked for Helicobacter pylori?

seetheworld Aug 25th, 2006 05:21 AM

Happy Friday!

Pluto, we hardly knew ye!! :(

Rave: My DH returns from his business trip early today! :)

Rave: Had a nice visit with my parents on my Birthday. I always get nervous when I visit...since my dad had his stroke, he just says the strangest things. He was having a good day. ((l))

Rant: My youngest son returns to school on Monday - I can't believe he is a junior. The packing hell will commence at approximately 10pm Sunday evening since he'a at a choral rehersal all weekend. He hasn't inherited his mother's amazing ability to pre-plan or multi-task. It should be fun! :-}}

Discovery Rant: After a month home from Europe, I finally noticed the crooked lamp in the living room! Did I mention the chip on the base that was so cleverly concealed?? :o You can imagine the thoughts going through my little brain -- he must have had a wild party (again) while we were gone, lol. NO. It happened as he was watering the plants on the front terrace...the phone rang...he ran in to get it...and bumped into my antique table which caused the lamp to begin to fall...he grabbed it (at some point, probably off the floor, lol)...and it was all MY fault since I was the one who was on the phone! :D Who could make up such a story!!?? I believe him. He's matured so much over this summer and THAT is a huge RAVE! (Well, also the "fear of MoM" also helped ;) )

Rave: Our oldest son runs the NYC 1/2 marathon on Sunday. It's an early race 7am! But mom and dad will be there to cheer him on!! Run, Son, Run!

Rant: Tuesday.

Rave: The nice birthday wishes from my Fodor pals. You guys are swell! :D

I have to go back and read everyone's posts with my decaf Earl Grey tea...

In the meanwhile, safe weekend to everyone! :D

kopp Aug 25th, 2006 05:27 AM

Excuse me, SB, for being a little slow today. But what could I possibly have to do with your wasted education?

virginia Aug 25th, 2006 05:29 AM

SpeedBuggy Aug 25th, 2006 05:31 AM

My apologies, Kopp. That was a joke - in reference to P_M's post "Kopp, an astronomer friend of mine did an interview with Channel 8 about Pluto"

Didn't mean to offend.
