We went to see Pirates today! On the way home we decided to check on the progress of our 'old' neighbor's new home even though we were finally in a thunderstorm here (haven't poured the slab yet, just got it staked off).
Well it's on a cul de sac and on the way back out, we saw lightning peel out of the sky, strike an oak tree right next to the street, with a ball of fire at it's base sending dirt flying everywhere!
At the same time, every pole on the the black metal fence in the backyard of the house across the street momentarily lit up like a Christmas tree!
Alittle too close for comfort!

LoveItaly~ my dh talked to his friend who is working on a project in Salinas and it sounds miserable. I hope it starts to cool down this week for you.
My sister meanwhile, is outside of Houston, and they have their humidity. I keep promising her I'll come visit but it will have to be the winter months.
Drink lots of water and take care, J.

Oh jetset, if I were your sis in Houston I would be on a plane in a NewYork minute and coming to stay with you!!
Salinas is not that far from me, all part of the Central Valley (my area is also known as the Sacramento Valley).
I am worried about everyone that has to work outside all day..rather scary IMO. A 34 year old gardner died yesterday from heat stroke.
How I wish we were all within driving distance of each other..how much fun that would be.
But things work out..at least that has been my experience in life. And I am drinking lots of water jetset! I hope everyone else is too.

LoveItaly~ now I'm worried about you in that heat. I feel guilty for griping about our cooler weather here this summer, but it does keep fire danger down and better for the skin.
Funny about my sister- she's lived in hot country for so long, if it dips below 80, she runs for a sweater and makes hot chocolate, lol.

Hi jetset, dear one I am staying inside with the a/c running 24/7. I hate to think what my electrical bill will be, ugh. Only doing necessary errands. Everyone in the Valley is hiding out inside their residences. 15 minutes outside almost makes one go "splat". I just pray we don't lose our power, the state keeps saying it is a possibility as everyones a/c is running night and day, sigh. And do you know WHAT jetset? I heard on the news it is all the fault of our dear neighbors in the PNW..they are causing the electrical problem. Can you beat that lol.
And Candice is right..I am way overdue to go to Portland. I was going to and than part of my family (stepson and DIL) took off for three weeks to Tuscancy). They just got home. Everyone worries about the heat in Italy at this time of the year and it was warm but they almost passed out when they returned to Portland due to the heat..about 100 degrees, right Candice? Unheard of. I have been in Portland in July when I have worn my trenchcoat. Strange strange weather.
Jetset, I so envy you with your weather. Count your blessings. If it doesn't cool down along the lower west coast you may see a plane load of Fodorites arriving in your Alaska, lol. You have how much salmon and halibut in the freezer???
And Corwin I mentioned to you on your other post..I think you need to have your children checked out my a medical person. Little ones can get so dehyderated and it can become such a serious problem, life threatening actually. Please let us know how they are tomorrow.
Hugs to all, good health and hopefully better weather in a few days.
