the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to not change things just because I can.

Rave: My 19-year-old daughter started a really good new job this week -- in the office where I work, so I will get to see a lot more of her! First paycheck is in 2 weeks, so she can finally pay for her own gasoline and cell-phone bill!

Rant: By mid-week, she was already talking about moving into her own apartment.

Rave: We were sweating out the fate of our long-planned, almost-completely-paid-for trip in July. My (our) previous boss had agreed to let her off for the trip, when she first applied for the job in February. Since then, we have changed supervisors twice! On my daughter's first day on the job, we asked the new boss about the vacation, and she (current boss) also agreed to let my daughter off for our trip. Barring a 3rd (!) change of supervisors, it looks like our trip is ON!!!

Rave: Four more days and my younger son will be a senior (!) and (rant/rave?) out of school for the summer.

Rant: The kids are growing up toooo fast.

Rave: I am off work for 3 days and will make the final plans for our trip tomorrow. Would have done it tonight, but my daughter borrowed my debit card to go out and buy new clothes for the new job. Oh, well ...

Rave:
Butterflies. Huge Monarch Butterflies. Sailing and floating over my garden.

Rant:
Who can rant after seeing those butterflies?

Wow, Scarlett - I remember quite a few years ago when I was waiting in my office for a patient who was a bit late. I was getting slightly annoyed - his appointment was right at the end of the day and I wanted to get home - when he showed up at the door. Our clinic was in an old building in a large park-like setting. The patient said urgently "You've got to come and look." I followed him outside into a grove of trees, and there were Monarchs - thousands of them, slowly moving their wings. It was migration time (mid-September, I think) and they were resting before crossing the lake to head into the southern US. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

Oh Lordy, Meesthare! I would love to have seen that! Or to go to Mexico? to see where they all travel to for the winter.
But these are big ones, a few here and there, lazily floating, coasting over the flowers and small trees..dreamy~

We've been seeing lots of lightning bugs here in Texas. They may be called fireflies elsewhere, but we've called them lightning bugs since I was a kid.

Also, a co-worker found a couple of baby horny toads in his garden last week. I haven't seen one of those in years.

How I miss the fireflies/lightning bugs. Too many people hereabouts use ChemLawn and other pesticides on their grass, which is where fireflies (l'bugs) breed and grow and live.

One of my all-time top images was driving down a country road with tall hedges on either side covered -- coated! -- with so many thousands of lightning bugs that it looked like a Christmas display.

Going .... going .......

Not sure if this is a rant or a rave, it's both: Remember how those nasty maniacs gave me such a hard time last week, calling my integrity into question, etc.? Well, apparently they liked the way I handled myself under the stress. They have now given me a new matter to work on, and not only that, they referred a new client to me this weekend. I have strong suspicions that they set up the nasty deamaning routine last week to see how I would handle myself before giving me a large piece of work that may involve standing up for my conclusions in a public forum. I've heard of companies doing that but I never thought that could be what was happening when I was in the middle of it. Very strange feeling.

I hope all you fodorites had a nice weekend at the beach, cabin, horse show, whereever!

Hi Cassidy2002.

I wimped out. 95 degrees with 100% humidity at the horse show, and I decided to wait for the next one - 2 weeks from now.

Rave: He (Bailey) was very good all weekend long though.

This horse is an all-arounder that I (will) show in AQHA (American Quarter Horse).

I was to have shown him in hunter under saddle.

Rant: The guy in the horse trailer next to ours left his dog in his trailer all day on Sat. By the time I heard him gasping, got him out and packed him in ice, it was too late

Why do people like that have animals to start with?

My weekend that started out so well was ruined imagining what that poor dog went through. Sigh...

Oh Diana, what a terrible story. I'm praying for that pup in doggy heaven now. Should've reported that SOB to the ASPCA.

Diana that is awful! So sorry to hear that.

not sure i should post a rave after that, but here goes...had a fabulous time at the cabin this weekend! It was sooooooo relaxing that we felt like we were gone for a week. Went fishing in the boat (no motors allowed on this lake so its very peaceful), did lots of walking in the woods, had huge fires in the stone fireplace and watched it rain outside. Discovered a bird nest above the door with babies in it and saw tons of other wildlife. Just as great as when i was last at this place almost 30 years ago!
