Oh travelinwifey, what a horrible story. I am so sorry!! If the woman did know Rusty's name and it is a small town do you think (hopefully) someone will know who did this. The reward was a good idea, as other ideas were.

If you have a local newspaper can you get them to write up an article also?

Statia, thank you for your wishes to my daughter. She truly had a magical birthday. She is a beautiful woman so that made me very happy.

And to all of you kind and beautiful Fodorites - A BIG RAVE!!!!

There are more good and carying people in the world than we realize, lets not ever forget that.

And BuffaloGirl, your DH grandmother lived to a grand old age but losing someone we love so much is never easy. My sympathy. And I know that a loss right during holdiday season makes it harder. Glad that family all came to be together.

Love and peace to all.

Rant - Our little dog Scooter is gone. For 15 years he was a sweetie pie, a pain in the you know what, a faithful friend and companion, a nuisance, a busy body and lots of other things - most of them good. We'll miss him, but his little body couldn't take any more pain. On his last day, before going to the vet's, I told my husband that we should give him lots of doggie junk food. My husband said, 'don't you think that will upset his stomach?'. He was a major part of out lives, and we will always miss him.

Rant & Rave - My husband and his best friend from school, are in Baja, Mexico at Club Ed, yes Club Ed, learning to surf! He was raised a few blocks from the beach here in San Francisco and by his own admission, never never even thought about surfing. The friend got the ball rolling and within two weeks he was learning to ride the waves. He called me from Coyote Cal's in Baja yesterday and said that we are moving down there to be closer to the waves and actually called me 'dudette' So un-my husband. He's ready to quit work and live on the beach - RIGHT. The nights are freezing, the food is fabulous and he is very proud of himself. First time in 18 years that we've been apart this long (one week) and it looks like this will be an annual Thanksgiving jaunt for him. If only the had a needlepoint camp at the same time, I'd sign up.!

Rave - Rather than go to friends for Thanksgiving dinner, For the first time in my life, I made the works, just for me. Yummy, and not as depressing as I thought it would be. Yams, stuffing, a turkey breast, and homemade cranberry sauce .... and I could stuff my face with absolutely no guilt. The leftovers are in the freeezer for Mr. Cowabunga.

Rave - This time alone gave me the time I needed to plan a last minute holiday trip to New York. BIG surprise for him, as when he left last week, we thought that we couldn't go because we couldn't get hotel reservations at our favorite hotel and I thought that it would be a hassle only a month away. I lucked out and found an apartment at Trump Place on the UWS, fairly decent seats, for The Foreigner, Democracy, Avenue Q, Golda's Balconey, Marijuana Logues and Twelve Angry Men, and Christmas Eve reservations at Babbo. Not bad for three days work!

Rave - Where there's a will there's a way.

Rant - I hope that your SIL finds Rusty and the woman is punished. Something similiar to that happened here in S.F. last year, but someone got the license plate nmber, and eventually the dog was rescued - but he had been dyed either pink or blue! Miracles do happen.

Rave - I had all of you to spend Thanksgiving with. Thank you.

Sympathies to those of you who lost pets this week - I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to our cats. They are family members and it would be pretty devastating. Let's hope that at least travelinwifey's story might end happily. Please keep us posted!

Hi folks, just got back from TG trip. Wow, never saw so many overturned vehicles in the ditches. Rant: My alcoholic brother was a total ass again.

Rave: Its so nice to be back home. ><

buckeymom, Maybe somebody needed Jesus. But a strange way to do it.

Ryan, I really don't think that more than half of all American males have been in uniform since the end of the draft. I wish the best for your brother and nephew and that this Iraq mess comes to an end.

travelinwifey, Sorry about your SIL's dog. My dog was stolen when I was a kid. We think he was stolen by a disgrunted hired hand who BTW lived in our home.

I hope that someone will post about the GTG and who was there.

Rant, I think: My dog looked confused when I returned home. Can't figure that out yet. :-?

Jor,
I also seriously doubt if it is 15 to 25% of the adult male population. However, I picked an intentionally broad number so as not to have someone say "25%, how can you say that and can you prove it is that low."

I didn't feel like proving a point by looking at the total male population that turned 18 since what 1973 and the total average size of our armed forces over the last 30 years.

Dcespedes, Statia, Scarlett, Indie, GoTravel, Buckeyemom, OWJ.......... thanks to all of you for your encouragement on this fitness quest of mine! I'm so happy that ALMOST 30 pounds are gone, but the hardest part is still ahead. I want to lose about 35 to 45 pounds more, and of course, that will come off more slowly... but I WILL do it! Every little pat on the back helps to propel me. Again, thank you!

Buckeyemom, the knee is MUCH better. I'm just being careful, and hoping the weight training will really strengthen it. Thank you for asking.

OWJ, I'm thinking about you, and hoping that each day becomes easier for you.

Travelinwifey, so sorry about the doggie. I hope Rusty will be back with those who love him soon.

Ryan, there are many prayers being said for people like your brother, including mine!

Bonnie, here goes another pat on your back. I admire you. At 71 years of age I know how hard it is to lose. I've become a syberite, lover of good food and things and no longer rollar skating and doing all the things I did because those who sharted the activities are no longer here, nor children.

Cigalechanta and Seetheworld, thank you both for your kind words and encouragement.

Cigalechanta, you are so right! At age 60, the pounds do not like to budge... it takes a lot of resolve and exercise to do battle with them! > But I intend to prevail...

Just thought I would add my two cents...I have lost 20 lbs and I did it a very untrendy way...I went OFF of Atkins after two years of trying to tell myself it was going to work "any day now". As soon as I went off of Atkins the weight just started to come off. If I could just take my computer on walks with me (read Fodors) I would be in top form.

Bonniebroad, Seetheworld, and Indie, thanks for your notes regarding Rusty.

No news unfortunately.#39;(

Bonniebroad, a giant congrats for your weight loss. May you meet your goal and most importantly "keep it off" When I was 18 and went to college my freshman 15 was 50, yes 50. I lost it all one year later with diet and exercise and it never came back, nor would I let it. The fact that you've lost 30 is just wonderful, you've got willpower! I hope you meet your goal and best of luck!

I have always heard that one of the biggest helps in losing weight is a good support system. It is much easier if you have friends to cheer you on.
So three cheers for bonnie and all of those who try so hard to lose weight and be healthy!

Rave:
DogWood Park, Jacksonville Florida.
They had a Poodle Party today, Tate the pup was there .. A fun time was had by all ((&))
