Four days in Maine

We are thinking about a trip to Maine this summer for four days without the kids. Where should we go? What should we do?

Aquaboggin in Saco (Southern Maine) a great water park. You must spend time at the ocean, but the lakes in Maine are also fabulous - - you need to go inland more. There are plenty of places to go hiking, but the mosquetoes can be a big problem in June.

You'll have a great time. But the black flies are worse that the mosquitos. Moosehead Lake is beautiful as is the Mt. Kathadin area, but both a remote. Acadia Nat'l Park on the coast is beautiful and the views from Mt. Cadillac are wonderful (you can drive up or you can hike). If you have time a visit over the border to St. Andrews, New Brunswick is great. Hope you have a great time. By the way I am a former Maine-iac.

Go to Portland's "Old Port" and to the art museum; take a ferry to one of the islands in Casco Bay; the Maine coast and its beaches are wonderful; go to Cape Porpoise, Biddeford Pool, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Camden, Boothbay Harbor, Bar Harbor, etc., etc. Eat lobster, drink the local beers--it's OK to be a tourist.

TRUE Maine can be found on Monhegan Island - about 10 miles off the coast from Port Clyde. But of course, don't forget LLBean's in Freeport!
