Following Lewis and Clark by car

We will be traveling the Lewis and Clark route by car(at least as much as possible) sometime during 2004. I have found narrative directions with towns, road numbers, etc., but would like the information in a map format. Anything I can get off the Internet? If not, I will buy something. Any ideas on great web sites for any of this?

My advice: buy a detailed Rand-McNally map, read the book _The Journals of Lewis and Clark_ by Bernard DeVoto, watch the PBS film "Lewis and Clark" by Ken Burns, mark you map, set your course, pack a tent, start the car and go.

We are planning the same trip for the 2004 year, and have purchased the travel guide "Traveling the Lewis and Clark Trail" by Julie Fanselow. This guide has been heavily recommended.

For a nice feature on your trip, you might consider bicyling some of the KATY trail in Missouri. It travels along or near the Missouri River for 150 miles.

http://www.mostateparks.com/katytrail/index.html has a nice interactive map of the KATY, which for that portion of the route would be the same as Lewis and Clark traveled.
