property taxes in OR are high next to other states
This is the only issue I wanted to comment on. $8,000 in RET is not high at all, and would be low compared to my friends who live in Westchester County, and in Madison, CT. I know more than one person who pays upwards of $30,000 a year in RET in the area.

Sorry - but just to introduce a little information. Based on property tax rates CT is one of the most expensive states in the country, whereas Oregon is somewhere in the middle. Those in CT are about 40% HIGHER than those in OR.
If I were you I would have a look at the info on some of these sites with official comparative information instead of flying blind based on people's perceptions.
But some people prefer not to let facts confuse them.

Hi Inak,
If you notice the " ", you'll notice I'm quoting part of the OP.
The last part.
Maybe the OP meant she was having a "Transient Ischemic Attack "
My guess she was saying "Thanks in Advanced".
But maybe you're right.

<chances are pretty good that person is only interested in their particular question and won't stick around to share any advice on their extensive travels. If she really wanted to participate in a travel forum I think she would've done so by now.>
We don't know that, is my point. One poster called her "just plain ignorant"--I mean, is that actually defensible? However wrongheaded the plan, however inapt the question for the forum, is that necessary?

The Op clearly asked for opinions of her decision to move.
And then when she received them chose to ignore that she had asked and belittled those who tried to provide sensible answers - and harked back to her twins seating issues.
Either she was extremely ingenuous - or one of those people who want only support for their existing ideas. Neither is likely on an open travel forum.
She is certainly free to make whatever decision she wants. But berating those who responded is simply rude - and if she never returns we have lost nothing.

It doesn't make any sense to move all the way across country for an arbitrary education.
How do you even know your twins will want to attend college?
How do you know they will not be dropout, flakes?
A friend of mine worked admissions at NYU and he told me a student with a high grade point average from a disadvantaged school would get in before a student with a high GPA from a good school all things being equal.

I hope you're ready to pay more than $8000. In property taxes for good schools.
My kids were educated in CT and they were very well prepared for college.
It isn't wrong to move to find better schools but towns do vary both in taxes and quality of their schools. Do a lot of research before choosing a town to live in.
