You said in your original post that you wanted "a nice beach". KW is not really a beach destination b/c most of the beaches are tiny & man made. There's lots of coral in KW. So, if beach is not impt to you then I guess KW wld be ok.

Key West as others have said would be good. Weather will be good, not too hot. Mid/late summer is unbearable. There aren't many beachfront properties - you won't be alone. KW will be a relatively wild atmosphere.

If you want a more laid back "old Florida" atmosphere try Boca Grande. an 11 mile long island near Ft. Meyers. You may have parts of the beach by yourselves as far as you can see. The downtown area has more character than anyplace really deserves.

During the high season, june, july is Tarpon season - best in the world. Packed with big boat owners. 6-8 really great restaurants. The Temptation (Temp) is great and has a great bar. South Beach bar & grill has good food and live bands. There are no chain restaurants or hotels on the island.

Actually, late summer in Key West isn't bad at all. In fact the humidity is much nicer than it is in the rest of the southeast and we often eat dinner outside.

The breezes keep south Florida much more temperate than the rest of the southeast.

Don't get me wrong, its hot but not as bad as South Carolina.
