Florida Electronic (NO CASH) Toll Roads

I will be in south Florida and the keys in November. I keep reading about electronic only (NO CASH) toll roads in the areas where I plan to be. Being a visitor, how does one deal with this, especially if I choose to meander and not be on a strict road plan. Do visitors have to buy a Sun Pass or whatever? and How?

Wow! I hope this isn't true. I always rent from AVIS, but I don't get the toll plan. I always just pay with cash. I'm not on the tollroads everyday, in fact, not very often at all. But AVIS will charge me a per-day rate PLUS the tolls if I have to do this! UGH... not happy. Hope we can still pay cash. Maybe it isn't on ALL toll roadways yet?? I don't see how they could get by with doing that. What about vacationers who come in for just a few days (like me) but would be driving their own vehicles and not renting a car equipped with the toll reader.

I did not find this before I initiated the thread. I was looking more at maps and directions to where I want to go and realized there is an issue here.

This link may be helpful.

This kind of thing makes me not want to visit a place. Extra fees it looks like and a big mess if you do it wrong

We bought a Sun Pass sticker at Publix last time we went to FL. It only cost $5 or $10 and that went toward the tolls. It is just a sticker that goes on your windshield. The only down side is it can not be moved to a different car. Once you take it off the windshield it is no longer good.

There are two kinds; One that you can transer and one that you can't.

Obviously, the one you can transfer is more elaborate and costs more.

So, if you're in Florida often you'd go for the more expensive one. Otherwise not.

You'd think that a place that depends so much on tourism would have a better way.

Interesting that we live in South florida. I've had the more expensive one on my car for over a year and haven't been on a toll road since.

I got one because I lent my car to visitors and they just drove right thru as they didn't know what to do. I ended up mailing in a check for a dollar.

I really hope after all this commotion the OP will come back and realize what was said earlier: not all toll roads are cashless and I'm not even sure the OP needs to USE any toll roads.

Thank You, Dukey1. I am starting to understand. I think it is the nuisance that I do not like more than anything. Where I live in California we do not have to live with this except for some rare exceptions, and they are totally by choice. It turns out roads I will probably be traveling include cashless toll roads, heading out towards the everglades as well as to the keys seem to be all electronic in parts.
