Florida toll roads

Are transponders for tolls that you get from MA, NY, or NJ good for the toll roads in Florida or can you pay cash? Do you have to buy a Sun Pass?

I know the ones from Illinois won't work. A lot of them have a cash lane, but not all! I was just there and there appears to be a couple of different companies. We were around Orlando, and if I set my Google directions to avoid tolls, it generally just added an extra few minutes to my drive. We did have to take the toll road to Kennedy Space Center, but there were pay booths the whole way.

It is easy to buy a Sun Pass and use it with a rental car. It is my understanding the the other passes don't work.

You need a SunPass BUT you also need to know that some of the toll roads WILL accept cash at SOME of their exits. Others will accept cash at only selected exits (think Florida's Turnpike).

All the information you need is contained in this document:

And be aware: Georgia's Peach Pass and North Carolina's NC Quick Pass are accepted. However, you'll need to utilize the clearly marked, SunPass-only lanes.

Transponders (EZ Pass) in NY, NJ, MA aren't good in FL. You can purchase a SunPass ministicker for $5, plus a $10 deposit for tolls. If you plan to do any extensive driving, it's worth it.
