Flights to Kauai
Hello there,
I have made plans to go to Kauai with a few friends in June but we haven't booked a flight yet. I wanted to see what people think might be the best price for flying to Hawaii in June. When do you think is the best time to buy etc? We are flying from Seattle if that helps. Thanks!

You should be able to get a decent price, I would think. I've gone in both September and October, from Michigan. I'd sign up for the fare watcher email alerts from various discount airline sites. Orbitz and SmartTravel are 2 of the ones I use. Also, Yahoo Travel has a fare watcher. Just type in origin, destination and date range, and they will send you a notice when the price drops. Happy hunting, and enjoy your trip!! We stayed in the Poipu Beach area a year ago on Kauai, and it's a beautiful place!

Thanks guys for your responses. Makes me feel better. I just wanted to know that I wasn't shooting myself in the foot by waiting a bit. I also figure that with the holidays, they are hiking up the prices right now, so I figure I'll wait until after the 1st of the year. I'll definately get myself on the fare watchers as well. Oh, and we are staying at a rental home--it should be so much fun! Thanks again.

Swirlgirl, I don't think you're "shooting yourself in the foot" by waiting a bit, but if you see a RT fare of $ 450 or less for June from Seattle, I'd strongly consider buying it.
And once you purchase your tix, the REAL fun begins--you'll have one part out of the way and can begin planning and dreaming of things you want to do there. Renting a place is a great idea. You will have a fantastic time!!!!

From SEA to LIH, anything under $500 is good. I've got my dates ready and check the fares every few days. My advise is for you to know the dates that work for you and as soon as you see the fare drop below $500 (or whatever number you pick) then buy it immediately. Sign up for the Hawaiian Airlines, Northwest and United emails and watch carefully for any sales. Once you see a sale announced then go to the web site and check prices.
If you are looking at the beginning of June then there is a good chance that there will be a fare sale between March to May. If at the end of June that is less likely. But this all depends upon how many unsold seats the airlines have.
Other advice is to also price our fares from Portland and even Vancouver (Canada). Sometimes these cities have better deals and since I buy 4 tickets it is worth the drive to save $100/ticket.
Also watch for a great fare to Honolulu or Maui and book the interisland separately. Usually this doesn't work out since interisland airfare is very expensive, but with Mesaba supposedly starting a new interisland airline next spring this may change.
Since you have some time you can also check Hotwire and put in $500 bids on priceline. Most likely you won't get it but if you do then it will be worth it.

Thanks CaliNurse and allanwar, I'm excited to hear it could get below $500. I think I'd be happy with a $500 fare but I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything lower. I wish there was a great deal now because I'm ready to solidify my trip (even if it is 7 months away) and begin planning! We are going mid-June so hopefully we'll still be able to catch the deals. Thanks again!

Swirlgirl, I wouldn't *count* on the fares going below $500, I was just saying that if they get to $500 or less then you should grab it ASAP. There may be a fare sale in late spring for the mid June timeframe. But there might not. For Hawaii the airlines don't start with the discounts because they know people want to plan months in advance and people will pay more to be certain they have a flight. Some airlines may give you a credit voucher if your flight is later discounted, but I know Hawaiian does not.

Hi again,
Thanks Fabio--I've never heard of amadeus.net, maybe that will help me find low prices--but I'll have to figure out the conversion.
alanwar--I don't expect them to go lower, I'm just hoping I can get them for around $500--and I will grab it if I see it. I just was hoping if I waited a couple of months there is a chance I can find a deal.
Thanks again!

don't forgetto check airline websites like AA and Hawaiian as oftentimes you can get cheaper airfare there then you can on the other booking sites. Our daughter just flew from Seattle to Lihue Kauai with one change in LA on american for $425. However, that was not in June.
