Flamingo Las Vegas
Hello, guys, came back from Vegas yesterday, and first of all I want to thank everybody who posted recommendations earlier - I read them all before the trip! Stayed at Flamingo, the room was basic, the service was mostly good, the location can't be beat, the pool and arboretum area is simply fantastic! Did not expect such a nice place to be so inexpensive and in the middle of everything. Every day I cut out time just to see the penguins! Although the pool is closed still you can walk around to see it.
The Bellagio fountains at night time really look pathetic as somebody on this forum had mentioned. I expected the lights to have colors! But I loved them at daytime, especially when we watched them off the long walkway on the left side (south?), you can see rainbows from there.
The strip gets crowded as there is a huge construction at Caesar's and part of the sidewalk is fenced. Same is across the street at the north part of Flamingo. Otherwise it's the same hated/beloved Vegas
The weather was hot (shorts/t-shirt) Feb 14-15, I saw people suntanning, next 2 days was so cold, we needed windbreakers at night.

I think its interesting what different opinions we all have. I personally think that the fountains at Bellagio are fairly impressive, but the "elegance" of their natural color or highlighted with pure white light is the most effective thing about them. If they were in colors, I think it would reek of tacky. But to each his own.

It's probably closed due to weather at this time of the year. My husband and I were married at the Flamingo Hilton Garden Chapel 6 years ago on the beautiful pool grounds (highly recommend this place for a wedding). Our wedding was in early Nov and I recall them saying the pool would be closed down for season starting in Oct.

Thanks for report on Flamingo. We are considering staying there for the one night we will be in Las Vegas before Grand Canyon, etc. trip since our teenage son loves penguins and daughter loves flamingos. Do they still have each at pool area?

Gail--
It seems as though we are taking a similar trip in June (I remember some of your earlier questions that I used for my own research).
Just to let you know, I booked the Flamingo through their website for 3 nights at $55 a piece which was lower than both Expedia and Quikbook had it listed for.
Being a big fan of penguins myself, that played into my choice as did the amount of pools which should make my daughter very happy. Promised her a couple of days of swimming after 9 days of hiking!!

Kay, the pool was closed for winter, also you can walk around. I don't recall seeing anything about re-opening... maybe check the website?
Gail, yes, flamingos and penguins are there, 24 hr free access.
Duchess, as we stayed over the valentines weekend we saw few couples to get married.
Some time ago I stayed at Sahara, this time at Flamingo - what a difference a location can make! For a non-gambler the center of the strip is a must!
