Flagstaff to Sedona
Taking route 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona, what is the approximate drive time?
Are there any good stops to make on the way between the two towns or is it a scenic driving route but with little to stop for? Are there any good view stops?
This would be on a Sunday in late February.

From Flag to Sedona on 89A during daylight hours in good weather is a 40 minute drive. The drive is incredibly scenic, one of the most scenic in the U.S. But it is a very steep decent from mountianous area through a canyon and finally into Sedona. Road is very winding with steep drops on the side (although you'll be driving on the "inside" in the direction you are going). We will not drive it at night.
There is really no place to stop except for one great place- a scenic overlook a little over half way down the canyon, on your left side. Really nice views there, great photo ops. And the local Native Americans sell their jewelry and other wares at many stands there, Navajo and Zuni. primarily.
If you are hungry, the Junipine resort, just as you are coming to the bottom of the canyon, and 15 min. before Sedona on the right, has a nice grill for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Behind the grill is access to Oak Creek, so you can see it up close, and get your feet wet (and you can see the huge trout that the creek is stocked with, although I am not sure where they go in Feb.) We are comfortable driving the portion from there to Sedona in the dark.
Go slow or you'll miss these turns.

Thank you for the replies. Including a stop at the scenic viewpoint, it looks like just over an hour from Flagstaff to Sedona.
Seeing as we won't have time to stop overnight, would you recommend spending a few hours or so (and getting some lunch) in Sedona or carrying on to Jerome?

The topic of staying in Jerone or Sedona has been covered extensively in another post in the last few days, so check here:

I found Jerome much more interesting than Sedona, but that's just me. I'd only do a day stop there.
emd- assuming you use MSIE or Firefox - to get a link to a thread, it's best to right click on the thread name, then choose "copy link location" (or something like that) .. then paste it into a reply.

I intentionally cut the above pasted url off .... you can eliminate EVERYTHING after the message number so that the link remains functional but doesn't mess everyone's screen up.

(that's probably the link you were looking for.)
