Fishing Trip Suggestions
I live in Wisconsin and would like to take my boyfriend on an unforgetable trip for his 32nd birthday. I'm looking for suggestions on where to go...We don't want to drive more than 14 hours and are looking for something cheap. We're pretty outdoorsy (hence the fishing) and wouldn't mind camping or staying in a small cabin. Oh and we don't know how to fly fish, but would be willing to learn...love to fish for bass and walleye.
Thanks for any suggestions

Probably upstate Minnesota. A really fun thing you might like to splurge for is a day trip to learn fly fishing. I know our friends in Rochester go somewhere a bit south and west. YOu have myriad places up your way! You could google for Orvis shops in MN and WI--or MI--and get some ideas. Fun fun!!

With a November date for the fishing trip, I would suggest you look for somewhere farther south than northern Minnesota. Some years the smaller lakes are covered in ice by then and it is unlikely that anyone will be fly fishing then.

My suggestions but may be contingent on weather:
Isle Royal Park (ferry may not be running)
Lake Winnie (MN)
We are from WI and always go to Red Lake, Ontario Canada in July. It is about a 14 hour drive.
Try searching for Howey Bay Resort or islandvacationretreat.com We have stayed at both. Island Vacation Retreat is on McKenzie Island and more rustic facilities than Howey Bay but cheaper........If you ever decide to travel to Red Lake let me know as we have many contacts as my family has been going there since 1960.............it's paradise for the outdoorsman or woman...........
