Fishing in northern Minnesota?
If we were to stay north of Duluth on Lake Superior we would like to fish for walleye. Is that possible in that area? Also, what are salmon like to catch out of Lake Superior? Should we hire a guide?

One of the best places to stay along the north shore is at Beaver Bay, just 50 miles north of Duluth and about the same distance south of Grand Marais. The best way to fish Lake Superior is to take a fishing charter out of Silver Bay (3 miles north of Beaver Bay). You can catch herring, salmon, lake trout (my favorite) and walleye. For accomodations call Cove Point Lodge 1-800-598-3221. They have rentals from 1 BR to 3 BR + 3 bath. Their WindSong Cottages are especially nice; situated on ledge rock overlooking the lake. There is also hiking, biking, canoeing, shopping and good restaurants all within walking distance. Let me know if you need any more info.

shhh...don't tell anyone....Grand Marais is a gem! Gorgeous marina, fun shops, good dining options.
We like the Superior Shores Best Western; breakfast included.
Beaver Bay is on Lake Superior....can't say much else to recommend it.
