First Vacation

My husband and I have been married for almost a year. We are looking to take our first vacation and I was hoping for suggestions from some of you more seasoned travelers. Thanks!!

What do you like? Beaches? Mountains?

No kids? How about a trip you'd want to take prior to starting a family? Europe or Africa maybe? NYC?

What city would you be flying out of? Or do you want a driving vacation? Camping? Hotels? Cruise?

Time of year? How many days for vacation?

Maybe you should give us some ideas of what you like and any limits you have, otherwise you will get EVERYTHING on here . . . which CAN be a good thing!

It will help others to know what you like to do: are you active - do you want to walk through cities? do you want an outdoor vacation? Are you looking to lounge on a beach? Do you want to drive from place to place or just go somewhere and stay put? Do you want to shop? see theater?

The questions could go on and on!

To begin with, we have a week of vacation, not that we have to plan a trip that long. He hates to be in the car, so something that wouldn't require too much driving would probably be best. I was thinking that some place that would be pleasant in Sept. would be good (we are from the South so hot doesn't really bother us!). Other than that, y'all have at it. I really do want all kinds of suggestions. Thanks!!

If you are considering having children, do a trip that you would not do with a family. Perhaps a romantic resort.

The beginning of Sept. is perfect for a trip to the westcoast, the Canadian Rockies, Sedona, the northeast. I would avoid hurricane areas.

If planning to drive - decide how many hours you are willing to drive and figure out how many miles this equals. Using this as the radius, draw a
circle around your hometown on a map. See what falls within this circle that appeals to you and go for it!!

Take a quick trip to Riviera Maya, lovely beaches, warm water, snorkeling/scuba, tons of archeological sites, terrific eco-parks, nice people, fun restaurants (Playa del Carmen is great for eating and shopping). Note that I'm not saying Cancun, but going a bit south. You don't even need your high-school Spanish, tho it's fun to use.
