Finger Lakes to Niagara Falls???

We're heading to the Finger Lakes for a long weekend from Boston.
We'll drive up 1 full day on Friday nice dinner in. Sat morning hike Watkins Glen then head to a few wineries, then some sightseeing. Out to eat Sat night somewhere casual. Sunday I thought we should head up to Niagara Falls which would be about a 2 1/2 hour drive up and 2 1/2 return. We would do the Lady of the Mist and walk around a bit, eat lunch that we packed and head back to Watkins Glen and have a nice dinner out.
A couple of the girls that are joining us for the Girls Getaway think that it will be too long spent in the car and really not worth it.
What do you think?? Should we see it now or save it for another trip with the kids (that may never happen???)
Thanks

Depends on how much you want to see Niagara Falls! There are so many beautiful parks (with waterfalls) in the Finger Lakes area that I'd be inclined to stay there. Hike a bit in another of the parks, roam around Ithaca or Seneca Falls, visit another winery. . . . Hope that helps!

I've been to Finger Lakes a few times with my husband and 2 children(live in NJ). Last time we went, we went to Niagra Falls on the last day and drove all the back to Jersey. I have done a decent amount of Domestic and International traveling and I think Niagra Falls was TOTALLY worth it...loved it. It is absolutely worth the drive. We did go on a nice and sunny day-you get wet on the maid of mist!

There is so much to do in the Finger Lakes region that if you only have a long weekend, you'd be better staying there and maximizing your time! While Niagara Falls is beautiful and worth the trip, it would be better as part of a longer trip or as a stand-alone.

For information on things to do in the Finger Lakes, visit:

There are also a lot of county websites with great information.

I agree with the previous posters. The Finger Lakes has everything you need for a terrfic Girls Getaway... including waterfalls. In fact, the area is home to over 1,000 waterfalls including Taughannock Falls in Trumansburg which is actually the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. TheTravelMaven has given you some great suggestions for other activities already, but be sure to check out www.FingerLakes.org for the most comprehensive regional activity listings. Have fun!

If you decide to do Niagara Falls, switch it to Saturday... that way you can be back in your rooms and have a nice easy Sunday........... but I would make Niagara next years Girls outing... Casino, Wineries, Niagara on the Lake...Spa...

this is an old post but where did you stay vino? I am mainly going for a wine trip to finger lakes but we're flying into Niagara Falls & will spend one night there then onto Finger Lakes. GOing mid October to check out the leaves. Any hints? How was the drive from Finger Lakes to Niagara? Is there a scenic route?
