Finding Hotel Suites in San Fran

Can anyone tell me where I can find a good, clean, 2-bedroom suite in San Francisco? There are 4 of us traveling for vacation, and we would like to get a room together (to try to save money), but also want to have the privacy as well (such as a 2-bedroom suite would provide). Any hotel recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't want to be negative, but we tried to do the same thing last summer for a different reason - 2 kids (9, 13) plus parents. We tried every web site, guide book, etc. No luck. I think land is so tight in SF that hotel rooms are very small. There are suites but they are not in city proper - they are all at airport, which is quite a trip.

Four of us traveling together stayed at Cow Hollow Suites on Chestnut St. in our favorite area of San Francisco. We had a huge 2 bedroom apartment with a giant living room with hardwood floors, nice carpets, a gas fireplace, beautiful furnishings and some antiques, dining area, full kitchen (which we used only for our wine and cheese), entrance hall, two full baths and two bedrooms. One bedroom had 2 queen size canopy beds and the other bedroom had a king size bed. There is indoor parking included underneath with an elevator to this "private" wing of about 20 apartments. How expensive? About $225 per night as I recall -- which included a discount for staying 5 nights or more. We're doing a one bedroom apartment there again this summer. You can probably get two rooms somewhere for less money, but you'll never find a better "deal" than this place, but you must book well ahead -- it is always full.

Try also Grosvenor Suites. This came highly recommended to me when I was looking for accommodations for 3 teenagers plus my husband and me. We ended up having to cancel our plans but this place sounded very nice and the price was right.

You may want to look into the Marin Suites Hotel in Corte Madera, just north of Sausolito. (800 362 3372) they may have a website.
We stayed there 3 years ago and loved it. It is listed in my AAA guidebook as a 2 star motel but that does not do it justice. Even though it is not in S.F, I found it to be a convenient location as it is 5 - 10 minutes from Sausolito, easy to to Muir Woods, Napa and Sonoma. It was a 15 - 20 minute drive to Fisherman's wharf, 10 minutes to Golden Gate Bridge. Some days we took the ferry across just for a change.
It has a great pool, good breakfast included. One night a week they have a (free)barbecue for all the guests. Our unit had a full kitchen, bedroom with 2 queen beds and a sleep sofa in the living room. Also a great view f the mountains. There may be bigger units. Nice touches like a gift bowl of fruit on arrival.

The price then was $119 which was a lot less than hotel rooms. I see that they offer 25% discount to AAA members (footnote-subject to availability.) My AAA guide is a couple of years old.

Also there is an Embassy Suites in Marin County .

The Cow Hollow Suites I know of is at Steiner and Lombard Streets. Pretty busy part of the city, but the description above sounds good. If the 2 bedroom rate is still $225 that's a very good deal for SF.

Kam, actually it is the Cow Hollow Motor Inn that is at the corner of Lombard and Steiner, but at the back end of the block, facing Chestnut is the Cow Hollow Suites, a separate section built as a small apartment building (maybe it's only 12 units), but managed by the Motor Inn. The big garage runs under both sections. The private door (you have a key and you can buzz in guests) to the Suites opens out on Chestnut next to Victoria's Secret. It is a little quieter than facing Lombard as the motor inn does. Actually the latest rate I had (from this past December) was $245 for the 2 bedroom suite with a 10% discount for 5 or more nights, and free parking. I keep thinking they're likely to double the price because it is always booked and I think they easily could and still rent them --but please don't tell them I said so. It is one of the greatest travel bargains I've found anywhere.

Patrick, sounds good to me! If it's a bit off Lombard, it will be quieter---the location is good and Tina should feel OK with it. I guess when we drive past we just see the Motel signs. Don't stay because we live here. Good choice.
