Final Vacation, Pre-Baby

Ok, call me naive - I thought with today's technology, a week or so from the estimated date would be the earliest that a baby (in a normal pregnancy) could be born. Further, I've heard stories where women would be in labor for hours and hours (enough time to drive home) before they had to get to the hospital. If those beliefs are incorrect, I'm to blame.
We waited so long because once we found out we were having a baby, we were busy for two months looking for a house and after we closed, it seemed like a problem (some major) was cropping up every week and we were interviewing contractors for nine different services throughout the past four months. In addition, we had to take off to meet the contractor at the house, to review their work, etc., etc. (I'm sure those with house issues know what I'm talking about).
Anyway, thanks for the great ideas. I may still use them if we are able to take a short vacation the beginning of next week (so it would be more than a month away). If it did come down to anything within four weeks, I will be in the Plaza in NYC. The Sagamore (Lake George), the Inn and Perry Cabin and the Basin Harbor Resort all look fantastic and if we can't go this time, I'm sure to visit somewhere down the road. The Canyon Ranch Health Spa was just way too expensive (i.e., around $4k for three days).
Thanks for all your feedback.

Ed, I'm glad to see that you're thinking now. You do seem to be a bit naive. By the way, technology doesn't determine when a baby will be born, mother nature does. My kids were born 3 weeks early, 2.5 weeks early, and 4 days late so you never know. The thought of your poor laboring wife driving 5 hours to get home to deliver her baby is scary.

Ed, you may want to actually talk to your wife's OB/GYN to learn more about the childbirth and the labor process, as well as accompany your wife to childbirth classes. You seem to need to clear up a lot of things before the birth. The 11 minute drive to the hospital with my 2nd child was hell enough. I couldn't imagine driving hours to get there. Glad to see you've come to your senses.
