Fiesta Bowl

I am going to Tempe for the Fiesta Bowl and was wondering about the block party they have for New Years Eve. Has any one been to it? Is it worth going to? Also are there any good steak/seafood restaurants in Scottsdale?

Depends if you're a Duck or a Buff whether I politely answer or not. After the despicable way my family was treated in Boulder Nov. 23 BEFORE we got beat by Colorado, (yes, I'm one of the undeserving, uncaring, just plain BAD Huskers you've all learned to hate in the last week--hee hee), I have only two words for any and all Colorado fans--GO OREGON.

I'm with Makes a Difference--Colorado has the worst college football fans by far. Poor sports, win or lose (that would be two losses this year, right??). Sorry I can't help you, Dottie.

We have hundreds of good restaurants...the first that comes to mind and is pretty close to the stadium is The Salt Cellar on Scottsdale Rd and approx. Curry Rd...reservations a must. There are loads of restaurants along the main street of Tempe, Mill Avenue and along Scottsdale Road and side streets. Further out, El Chorro, which has been here for approx. 60 years, has good American food and you can eat outside, also good for Sunday breakfast...reservations a must also. For seafood and beef, The Chart House on McCormick Parkway, off Scottsdale Road. You also might consider going to the Fiesta Bowl Parade, always very good and alot of fun...it runs along Central Avenue in Phoenix and is also televised...it will be on 12-29.

I've been to the Block Party several times. It's a BIG crowd, lots of beer drinking and now they've turned it into a family night out by extending the block party down to the lake/park. Vendors selling all kinds of stuff, games and a concert by I don't know who this year. There are several bands playing everywhere. Have dinner early at your favorite place then head down to Mill Ave. to get a somewhat close parking space. If you can still get reservations try Don and Charlies(it's decorated with Don's collection of millions of baseballs and signed photos from all the famous sports guys and the food is great) on Camelback just east of Scottsdale Blvd or try Bandera's at Main and Scottsdale Blvd. The smell of open fire cooking will drive you nuts.

Have a great time!

Pinnacle Peak Patio in far north scottsdale for big Cowboy steaks

Get a great burger at the Chuckbox right by the Stadium on University before going to the game. Best chicken anywhere at Pollo Supremo, just west of Mill on University

Oh August Fodor's editor, why did you choose to sanitize this thread? Someone posted yesterday about the gang rape that occurred in Boulder by Colorado football players and recruits, and now it's gone, all cleaned up. Hate to break it to you, but it's real life and real news, however unpretty. And it relates to this topic. Don't you have some books that you have to go burn now?
