Got tickets to see Red Sox and Yankees play in July. Want to tour Fenway prior to game time. They don't take reservations. From past experiences, do you think we will be able to do tour that day, or would it be better to go on a non game day?

Unless they've changed things in the past couple years, I believe there are early-morning tours on game days. Whether it's on the same day as your game or another day, definitely take the tour. It's great!

Tickets are sold on the day of the tour, so get there at 9am if you have a particular time you prefer - whether to go the day of game or another, that's up to you -
I don't know how many days you are in town - if you'd rather, get there early another day and do this first and then go on to your day -

you'll enjoy it - it's a fun tour - it's a highlight for many of our out of state visitors -

Since we go to the game the day before we leave, instead of chancing not being able to do the tour, we will tour on a prior day.

Anything else you would suggest to see in the area of the park?

well, it's pretty close to the museums, Fine Arts, and Gardner so you could go there from Fenway. Otherwise I don't think there is much else in the immmediate area.

If you are there at lunch time, there are a number of good places to eat from the very casual.. a taqueria called El Pelon, good Thai at Rod Dee, A good mexican place called La Verdad on Landsdowne. Or nicer places like Eastern Standard, Petit Robert Bistro, Trattoria Toscana, Great Bay.

what do you like and who is in your party - ages, interests, etc -

you can do a brewery tour , which for some reasons my visiting relatives always do in tandem with the fenway tour

r the museums mentioned are near and excellent ideas - and I think are the only thing truly 'in the area'
although you can get from there to BU and walk along the Charles

Food; there is also places like jillians, that have pool, big tvs, bowling etc - (lesser food) but if you like that type of thing -

Adult & 13 year old boy. So brewery tour may make him the hit of his 8th grade class next year, but probably not a good thing to do. Think we will do Fenway first thing, then stop at Skywalk observatory and Mapparium, then spend the rest of the day at the Science Museum. Too much? Don't want to be going at a crazy speed and rush through things and not take time to enjoy Boston.

Skywalk Observatory is great on a good day -
from there you could have lunch on your walk between there and the Museum of Science - many places to choose from - and T or walk one of the ways to or from the museum.
If it's not a clear day, stop at a few things along your way to MOS (Boston Public Library - free, take a quick peak with him, the Sargent Murals, just the sheer size of the library, roam around a bit) - Trinity Church - and on to Boston Public Garden/Boston Common/Charles St overpass to the river type stroll -

It might be worth a phone call to Red Sox to see if they really do tours on Yankees-Red Sox game days. These games are insane, and it would seem logical they might not do tours. If by some chance you or son ar Yankees fans, I would advise against wearing Yankees team attire or being too, too vocal cheering for your team. There will certainly be many Yankees fans at these games and Fenway is very safe and security for Yankees-Red Sox games is well aware that tensions can rise. But all it takes is one drunk who is offended to make your day miserable.

And it is a guarantee that there will be multiple "Yankees Suck" cheers from crowd, regardless of game outcome.

They absolutely run the tours whether we are playing the Yankees or anyone else

the only difference on game day, is they stop them earlier - witht he last tour leaving 3 1/2 hours before the game would start -

I also believe this last tour is often an abbreviated tour -

another reason to get there and do one of the earlier tours or the first tour and not on your game day -

I have it bookmarked for family, but it is just as easy for you to google the red sox site and click on tours - all info is there and when we've made plans and had to call, the personnel is very helpful

I toured on a game day--it was great; we saw a number of the players drive into the players' parking lot-including Johnny Damon.

Across the street is a rather huge souvenir, memorabilia etc store; so you can get that jersey you've always wanted.
