feb. skiing with kids in new england

Single parent (non-skier) and 2 kids (13 year old skier and 8 year old learner). We are looking for a new england winter resort to spend 4-5 days at in Feb. Parent is looking for possible spa/hotel to fill up days while kids are exercising/freezing outside

Check out Yankee Magazine's website: www.newengland.com. Make reservations very soon. Stowe has a lot to offer (check out the StowFlake Inn), and good restaurants too. If money is no object, the Balsams, in Dixville Notch, NH, is a real treat.

Smuggler's Notch has my vote for one of the best New England resorts for families. We spent a week there when our kids were younger and learning to ski. Our kids loved their instructors, and improved in their skiing. Our package included 10 am to 3pm instruction for the kids, a daily lesson for the adults, lodging and lift tickets. There are 3 mountains with all variety of terrain. Go, enjoy, and get out of the lodge!

Definitely check out Smuggler's Notch. Excellent. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory is a short drive away. Terrific tours. You and the kids will love it!

I first learned to ski at Camelback in Pennsylvania. It was great. The instructors were wonderful. There was also alot of other activities to do besides skiing, everything from sledding, to snow mobiles, indoor tennis, an arcade, an indoor swimming pool. So while the skiing is great there is a lot of other things for you and the kids to do.

Mt. Washington Valley in New Hampshire has mountains for all ages and abilities; Cranmore & Black for families, Attitash more Intermediate but can be crowded on weekends and Wildcat in Pinkham Notch for more advanced. Plenty of X-country trails, Inns with fireplaces and hot tubs. Cranmore Sports Center has indoor pool with water aerobics, tennis, machines and nautilus, free weights, yoga and more. A day pass is $8. Water Aerobics $3!
The Cut Off is a day spa with massages, facials, pedicures with massage and parrafin dip (603) 356-6276. Many more services and very reasonable. Great restaurants in the area, Bellini's for Italian, Elvio's for pizza, Horsefeathers and Red Fox Pub appetizers and eclectic, Red Parka Pub for steaks and music.
Call Mt. Wash Chamber of Commerce at:
1-800-367-3364 or e-mail at:
[email protected]
for a guide to all the recreational activities and accomodations and other retail businesses.
