Very cool. I was tempted to book with San Diego Sailing tours, but will check this one out. (I am a sucker for wine while underway, ha ha) Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply on restaurants (I see you've moved on to sailing!) but we were in San Diego about 10 years ago and to this day the entire family still talks about the burgers and milkshakes at Hodads. Complete dive, totally fabulous. Also second the vote for the fish tacos at George's.

C, yes, I thought Hodads looked wonderful, but we didn't get a chance to try it. We went to the Burger Lounge though, and it was fantastic. Would love to try Hodads on a future trip.

>>They see whales quite frequently and have seen orcas on occasion. We saw sea lions, dolphins, etc. The guide was excellent>>

If you are interested you can do free guided swims through the La Jolla Swim and Sports shop in the corner of Girard and Torrey Pines Blvd. There may be other paying tours in the La Jolla Shores you can check out too. As you are swimming in the ocean (her name is Adriana) will point out the various sea life. You can see seals, but usually more often sea lions, reef fish, swimming nearby. She saw a whale one morning about 100 feet away from where her group was swimming. Dolphins are also curious and will swim up to surfers on their boards.

CGS, others have mentioned Hodads in Ocean Beach. I'm glad you did too! It's a lot of fun and Ocean Beach is a great place to window shop and spend some time at the beach or walking on the local pier. I lived there in the early 70's and the great thing is it still has the same great surfer, hippy, college student vibe.
