fastest way from richmond, va to nags head

I'm driving next Saturday morning with the family from Richmond, Va. to Nags Head ... last year a waittress at a Richmond restaurant gave us a GREAT way to get there, and now I'm drawing a complete blank. It had us avoiding the bottlenecked bridges, etc. ... we drove through some pretty rural Va. countryside on a state route or something ...

any ideas?

Did you go to Petersburg and take 460 over to the road to OBX?

Take 95 South to Rocky Mount, NC. Then take 64 east to Nags Head.

Beware of the forest fires currently burning in parts of Hyde and other counties...lots of smoke and ash.

Route 64 doesn't appear to be threatened..yet

You can take US 64 from Richmond to Rt 168 and right into Nags Head. We used to us Rt 17 to Rt 168 from the eastern side of Maryland and the road was great.
