Fast food- worst and best

Just taking an informal survey on Fodorland's reviewers' most favorite and most detested fast food restaurants. My favorite- Long John Silvers. My most detested- McDonald's.

Often we just don't have a choice. Like it or not, McDonald's is everywhere, especially in remote areas. Just my two cents.

My family's only chain favorite:
White Castle
The only other fast food we eat:
Chicago hot dogs
Detest most others I have tasted, especially Taco Bell and Arby's

We are all cooks and if we can't make our own or go to a restaurant with nutritous food than we buy cheese or
fruit on the go or while traveling.

Hardly ever eat fast food except maybe 4-5 times a year during "road trips." My favorite fast food: all the fried chicken places -- especially Popeye's & Bojangles (KFC is a distant runner up but it'll do in a pinch).

If those aren't available, I don't mind Wendy's too much.

I am not a huge McDonald's fan, but the fries really are fab.

I really do think Hardee's is by far the worst. When I was little I used to love Arby's but now I can't stand it (did it change, or did I?). Also, Taco Bell is pretty awful.

Favorite- Taco Bell. Of course, this could have something to do with the fact that they are open late nights on weekends.......

Least liked: Any of the roast beef ones, especially the ones on the New Jersey Turnpike rest stops.

Landrew- Cute post!

Totally detest KFC...didn't like it as a child, and I won't eat it now.

Favorite...don't really have one...but I'm a sucker for a McDonald's cheeseburger and fries every now and then.

Favorite: Wendy's and Burger King. Because they customize burgers I don't have to eat one that's been sitting around.

Worst: The Hardee's closest to my house. Haven't found anyone there that can make correct change. They all seem to be programmed to take orders for combos; I rarely eat fries.

And McDonald's gets the award for worst soda -- anytime, anywhere, any flavor.

El Pollo Loco is the best -- their chicken doesn't even taste like fast food. A close second is Rubios ("The Home of the Fish Taco".) Southern California is blest!

Favorites: Wendy's (I like their chili and their caesar salad) and Popeye's. Last June I went to McDonald's in Paris just so I could get a drink with some ice in it! Generally I don't care for McDonalds, though I "had to" go there when my kids were small.

A second vote for El Pollo Loco--one of the few places my kids and I both like. Too bad it's probably too small to go nationwide.

Dislike--McDonalds. For some reason, every time I eat there, I can still taste and smell the food for two days. Never been a big fan of those scrawny fries either.

Must agree, Hardee's is rather bad. I love Popeye's chicken, especially onion rings. Surprised that one gal who loved Captain Ds (I like it too) hated the very similar Long John Silver's. Fish at both are much tastier than Arthur treachers. As far as I'm selfishly concerned, the only redeming quality of my Maryland to Ohio in-law Thanksgiving trip is stops at Long John Silvers along the way- west PA, Morgantown,WV and east Ohio are filled with the little buggers. One last thing which shows how management can make or break a fast food restaurant. I like Arby's huge roast beefs. In the wealthy Richmond suburbs, there is a very well run Arby's that is clean and the food is fresh. It is well-staffed. Twenty miles down 95 is an Arby's in Petersburg that is grimy, poorly managed and staffed by the uncouth. Same chain, different restaurant.

Wow, I didn't know there were so many people out there who hated McDonald's. The big mac is the best burger going, in my opinion. I can eat McDonalds everyday, but thankfully I have strong willpower so I only occassionaly indulge.

Least favorite: Wendy's. Mustard should not be on a hamburger.
