Farewell from Danny Mangin

Hello All --

Today is my last day at Fodor's, and before I depart I want to say goodbye to everyone in the land of Travel Talk. I've had a great five-year run as the editorial director of Fodors.com, in large part because your insights and helpful hints have made the site such a valuable resource for travelers. I'll miss the daily dose of advice and repartee, though I'm sure my sister, who became a Travel Talk addict after a brief stint as a monitor in 2002, will keep me up to date on the hot gossip. (My mother, on the other hand, will be relieved that her beloved son's name will no longer be taken in vain when there's a problem with the monitors or site performance!)

Best of luck in all your travels. It was a pleasure knowing all of you, if only in cyberspace.

Yours truly,

Danny Mangin

Oh, Danny. Where are you off to?

I will miss occasionally sharing e-mails with you about some of the ridiculous posts and stunts.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, where are you going, Danny? Did we drive you away? Are you leaving us in good hands? Come back and visit sometime, okay?

Why not take your last day off, and put your editorial pencil away?

Thanks for doing what has to be a tough job well, and best of luck.

Danny, just because you're leaving your job at Fodors doesn't mean you still can't be a Fodorite!

Surely you have travel advice to share like the rest of us?

Maybe the better question is how can we get paid to be Fodorites like you did??

Best of luck on your new venture!

California, here I come...and, yes, you're in good hands. I'll leave them to introduce themselves, but I'm confident the world of Travel Talk will remain a vibrant one.

Oh Danny! We'll miss you and we'll miss taking your name in vain when the site gets wacky!

Godspeed and I wish you much luck in all of your future endeavors! Drop in and say hello to us on occaision.

P.S. Will you give us the combination to the vault that contains all the deleted posts? Most importantly the one about 'Tipping the Pilot' and the girl who's honeymoon and wedding was ruined by Sandals Resorts? Pretty please? Will you take cash bribes?

Thanks for the memories Danny, and great job! Come back and see us!

One question before you leave: give us at least one of your best traveling tips, one of your best personal traveling stories or... any chance you had another screen name that we might recognize, and now miss?

Blessings to you and yours!

California? Oh Danny, come to the SF area GTG in Yountville the Friday after Thanksgiving! There will be 25 of us and I am sure we'd love the chance to buy you dinner and ply you with some of that excellent Napa Valley vino.

PS If anyone wants it, I've got Tipping the Pilot as a word doc and will email it to anyone who asks.

We'll be looking forward to your trip report on your migration west, Danny.

Will we be able to spot your handle once you become a poacher instead of a gamekeeper?

All the best to you, Danny, thanks and Bon Voyage!

Marilyn: would you please email me the Tipping the Pilot thread to [email protected]? I lost the last one you emailed me when my old computer died. Thanks!
