Farewell from Danny Mangin

Hello All --

Today is my last day at Fodor's, and before I depart I want to say goodbye to everyone in the land of Travel Talk. I've had a great five-year run as the editorial director of Fodors.com, in large part because your insights and helpful hints have made the site such a valuable resource for travelers. I'll miss the daily dose of advice and repartee, though I'm sure my sister, who became a Travel Talk addict after a brief stint as a monitor in 2002, will keep me up to date on the hot gossip. (My mother, on the other hand, will be relieved that her beloved son's name will no longer be taken in vain when there's a problem with the monitors or site performance!)

Best of luck in all your travels. It was a pleasure knowing all of you, if only in cyberspace.

Yours truly,

Danny Mangin

Oh, Danny. Where are you off to?

I will miss occasionally sharing e-mails with you about some of the ridiculous posts and stunts.

Best of luck to you!

Judyrem Nov 19th, 2004 08:22 AM

Bye, Danny, best of luck!

Yes, where are you going, Danny? Did we drive you away? Are you leaving us in good hands? Come back and visit sometime, okay?

cigalechanta Nov 19th, 2004 08:35 AM

Dear Danny,
thanks for all your help these last years. I wish you great success in the future path you have chosen. Wish you and your family happy holidays.
Will you tell us where you are going?
We'll miss you,
mimi

Fare thee well my friend, fare thee well.

beachbum Nov 19th, 2004 08:37 AM

Why not take your last day off, and put your editorial pencil away?

Thanks for doing what has to be a tough job well, and best of luck.

tpatricco Nov 19th, 2004 08:37 AM

Danny, just because you're leaving your job at Fodors doesn't mean you still can't be a Fodorite!

Surely you have travel advice to share like the rest of us?

Maybe the better question is how can we get paid to be Fodorites like you did??

Best of luck on your new venture!

danny_mangin Nov 19th, 2004 08:38 AM

California, here I come...and, yes, you're in good hands. I'll leave them to introduce themselves, but I'm confident the world of Travel Talk will remain a vibrant one.

doc_ Nov 19th, 2004 08:42 AM

Truth be told,Danny. Which posters WON'T you miss?

GoTravel Nov 19th, 2004 08:44 AM

Oh Danny! We'll miss you and we'll miss taking your name in vain :-D when the site gets wacky!

Godspeed and I wish you much luck in all of your future endeavors! Drop in and say hello to us on occaision.

P.S. Will you give us the combination to the vault that contains all the deleted posts? Most importantly the one about 'Tipping the Pilot' and the girl who's honeymoon and wedding was ruined by Sandals Resorts? Pretty please? Will you take cash bribes? :-D

Cheers, Danny boy!

Happy travels and good luck down the road. Which ever one you take.

dan_woodlief Nov 19th, 2004 08:47 AM

Thanks for all your hard work on the site Danny.

ellen_griswold Nov 19th, 2004 08:50 AM

Thanks for the memories Danny, and great job! Come back and see us!

One question before you leave: give us at least one of your best traveling tips, one of your best personal traveling stories or... any chance you had another screen name that we might recognize, and now miss? ;)

Blessings to you and yours!

dln Nov 19th, 2004 08:54 AM

Much happiness in your new endeavors!

Marilyn Nov 19th, 2004 09:00 AM

California? Oh Danny, come to the SF area GTG in Yountville the Friday after Thanksgiving! There will be 25 of us and I am sure we'd love the chance to buy you dinner and ply you with some of that excellent Napa Valley vino.

PS If anyone wants it, I've got Tipping the Pilot as a word doc and will email it to anyone who asks.

Budman Nov 19th, 2004 09:14 AM

Danny, can I get a Fodors Pin before you leave? ((b))

Gardyloo Nov 19th, 2004 09:14 AM

We'll be looking forward to your trip report on your migration west, Danny.

Will we be able to spot your handle once you become a poacher instead of a gamekeeper?

All the best to you, Danny, thanks and Bon Voyage!

GoTravel Nov 19th, 2004 09:19 AM

Marilyn: would you please email me the Tipping the Pilot thread to [email protected]? I lost the last one you emailed me when my old computer died. Thanks!
