Family trip to MAUI need ideas!!
We are in the planning stages for a family trip to MAUI ???-We would like to stay at a condo-any suggestions of what condo and what beach? I have two children a 11 and 13 year old. We are planning our trip for the first week in April. Any HELP will be appreciated. Internet is helpful, but soooo much info. Have been looking at pkgs by hotel.com-Has anyone used them and if so, do you have any comments you can share...Thanks!!!

We loved the Embassy Suites Kaanapali, it was reasonable with an Entertainment discount, and the suites huge. It is a timeshare, so stay away from the "free first day breakfast", and opt for the buffet that's included. It was a few years back, but I think we paid $175 a night.
As for hotel.com, I always find the best price through Travelocity or Expedia or another service, then call the hotel directly, and book with them at that price. I have never gotten a cheaper price through a service, except Priceline (which I'm usually not willing to use becuase I like to pick where I'm staying)
Have a great trip!!!

Depending on your budget, the Whaler and the Kaanpali Ali on Kaanapali Beach would be good choices. The Whaler is older and less expensive. Both have great locations on the better parts of the beach. On the south side, the Makena Surf is very nice, but a little isolated. We liked it. Have a great trip.

I agree with the previous poster - Whaler & Ka'anapali Ali'i are in great location with lots for the kids to do. Try vrbo.com or ownerdirect.com to book thru owner - less expensive. Another place I like is Puamana - it's a gated townhome community just on the southern edge of Lahaina. They have 3 pools, tennis courts, clubhouse. It's only about a 6 or 7 block walk into Lahaina. Good luck!

I would choose the Whaler! We are going with our boys 10 and 12 - March 2004 (3 trip to Kaanapali Beach) We rented thru vrbo.com. Found an owner with ground floor studio for 150.00 per night. Fold out King Murphy and Sofa sleeper. The Whaler has a nice smaller pool, hot tub, nice grounds and barbs. The beach location is the best. Right next to Whalers Village and Blackrock. Beach activities are right in front of the Whaler. Being on ground floor is a plus - to be able to walk right out of the Lanai on to the grass and let the kids play on the grass or walk to the pool and come in and out of condo from the beach. We stayed at the Alii in 2000 - it is nicer than the Whaler - but you will pay more. The beach is not good for snorkeling. You will have to walk down to Blackrock to snorkel. I read that the beach in front of the Alii is disappearing. Location of Alii still good but not as good as the Whaler. Whaler does charge $7.00 per day to park and Alli is free. Let us all know what you end up choosing. Good Luck!!
