We are celebrating my husband birthday with 6 adults and 2 grandkids ages 6 and 10. We are staying near DuPont Circle. What are good, family inexpensive restaurants (not chains) We will be there 3 days

I didn't check to see how many are in the Dupont Circle area.

I think one of the main issues you all will have is that you've got 8 people. That can be a bit of a struggle during busy dinner hours. If you can book ahead I recommend it.
Here's a few suggestions in your price range. Don't know if it overlaps the list vip linked. A mix of neighborhood, fast casual places and a few others. A couple might be chains. A couple might be the upper bound of your price range.
Rosemary's Thyme Bistro
Pizza Paradiso
Nando's Peri Peri
Food Corner Kabob House
GBD (chicken and donuts)
Burger Tap Shake
BGR The Burger Joint
Hank's Oyster Bar
Firefly
Dolcezza (coffee and gelato)
Kramer Books and Afterwards
