Family Ski Trip - CO or UT?

I'm looking for a ski resort for 2 families with 5 teenagers the week of Dec.23rd. Our abilities range from non-skier to excellent and a few avid boarders. We would like a condo in a village atmosphere with things to do off the slopes and other places to see or ski nearby. Right now Copper Mtn, CO and Park City, UT are the places we're considering.

I would really appreciate feedback on these 2 places or other recommendations. Also condo recommendations.

Thank you

I would recommend Breckenridge, CO. It is near Copper Mountain, but the town has much more to offer than Copper Mountain. If you stay in Breckenridge you can easily ski other Summit County resorts and even Vail and Beaver Creek (of course, you could stay at Copper Mountain and do the same). I think your non-skiers would find much more to do in Breckenridge. Try the website VRBO.com. There are tons of Breckenridge properties listed there.

I highly recommend Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Crested Butte Colorado. A little hard to get to but well worth the effort.

Breckenridge is great - But you have to deal with the crowds and I-70. I would choose Steamboat Springs. It still has a ranching atmosphere and about the best skiing Colorado has to offer!

Another vote for Steamboat. It was rated one of the top areas for families in Ski Magazine.

DJ,

I have been to both CO and UT. UT is by far the better spot. Park City is about 1/2 hour from the Salt Lake City airport so you can ski half a day when you arrive and half a day when you depart. Park City and Deer Valley ski resort are within 5 minute ride of each other. There is also another mountain in the valley that only allow's snowboarding. I think it is called Wolf mountain. This too is about 5 minutes from Park City.

Hope you have a great time

I haven't skied CO, but I had a great time in UT. We stayed in SLC and skied all three major ski valleys over four days. I loved Park City, but out of the three valleys, Alta/Snowbird was the best skiing. None of the areas were particularly crowded either. Wasach Mountains have terrific powder and the weather was glorious.

I put my vote in for Summit County, Colorado. This includes the Keystone and Copper Mountain areas--both great for families but not as massively crowded as Breckenridge (do Breck. in the summer--lots of fun). Stay in Keystone--there's quite a bit to do and the little village even has an ice skating rink that's fun. Last time I skiied both places, felt like Copper catered more to med.-advanced skiiers--plenty of moguls that teens seem to love. I prefer Keystone for that very reason... It's a great area--we've skiied this area for the last 25 years. By the way, the posters recommended Steamboat are also leading you in the right direction. What a great place!
